Can someone with a bit of mechanic's knowledge explain to me how I can repair this vehicle? I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars to some body shop to fix it. I do have tools and I can buy whatever parts are necessary for the repair, I'm just not sure where to start.

>> No.1330763

>>1330760

at a minimum - hood and bumper cover

you need to check the ac condenser and radiator for leaks, maybe fans. also you may need a radiator core support and headlight.

>> No.1330766

Pull the bumper, and use a heatgun to straighten it.

Remove the hood, then hammer it back to shape.

Use body filler to get rid of debts in the metal.

Then primer. Then, color matched paint, and clearcoat

Or just fet a new bumper abd hood from a junkyard and paint them

also pullup the real parts diagrams for your car like here: https://www.hondapartsnow.com so you can make a list of stuff to replace

>>1330763
I already check all that. No leaks, lights are working fine and the ac/heater are still in operation. I think it is just cosmetic damage. Part of the front bumper is off on the left side of the vehicle, it looks like it can just snap in or out of place.

>>1330766
Good tips thanks. I do have a heat gun so I will try that.

Your car looks fine anon. Just hammer the hood out on a suitable surface, and use a hot air gun on the backside of the bumper, it should pop back out with some minor help. Replace the farsteners that are sheared and try to reshape the grille support struts with aforementioned hot air method. Use a respirator and pillows under your arms if you're a pussy.

2nd hand from wreckers as its not an uncommon car so there should be a few out there, maybe in the same colour too.
You 'can' try what others suggested but it mostly comes down to "time or money", if you need to get it back on the road asap for work or whatever it could be quicker to do a switcheroo with anything bent. Check the front intrusion bar for bends, its usually behind the bumper and the radiator hangs off it- that might require some surgery with a hack saw and welder if its too fucked up. Otherwise you just go full bodge with a length of rope around it and yank/bend and beat it back into some kind of shape.
At least your lights look ok, they always cost a mint.

Yeah I was pretty fucking scared when it happened. First year driving this vehicle. All of my other vehicles in the past have had studs during the winter, but I skipped them this year. It was pretty mild as far as a winter goes and this was the first time that it froze since around Christmas. I wasn't thinking when I left, I didn't expect the ground to be iced over. You live and learn, I'm just glad nobody else was involved and that I didn't get hurt. Airbag didn't even deploy, but that has never happened to me.

Its not reasonable to affix new sensors and replace an airbag even in slow impacts. And if you do can you trust the airbag ever again?

She got it when her grandma passed recently, so she was understandable pissed at me, but not too much since no one got hurt and the car still drives fine. She even drove it afterwards and made no comments about it, so I think I'm going to be alright. Just got to fix it before her folks see because I know they would be pretty pissed.

Not a bad price at all. Remember to grab all the little hardware, plastic push pins etc when you pull salvage parts. That's another considerable convenience advantage of pulling your own parts. Most of that stuff is also cheap a the dealer if you need a few.

Watch some vidyas on pulling body parts to see how clips etc are removed. You can remove your hood before going to the salvage yard and install. the replacement on the spot. We did that with truck beds too. You can and should remove your damaged bumper beforehand cover to know how to harvest the good one. If you break any plastic clips save them for samples.

absolute advantage is basically someone that can do something more efficient than you because either A they do it all the damn time or B they already have the necessary equipment. there are also other factors in there.

You can't even use google and you are talking about changing your own oil as if its the most difficult task ever and only you can do it when auto shops literrally have teenagers first starting out do it because it's basically the most basic shit ever.

>how much damage can they do to my car by changing the fucking oil? you think its that hard of a job that someone that does it 10 times a day is more likely to fuck up than you that does it once every 3 months? Holy fuck you are retarded.

Except he's not retarded at all. Learn something that may save you a shitload of money: Mechanics don't change your oil, lube monkeys who aren't good enough to be mechanics change your oil and the difference is considerable. One reason I became a mechanic is to avoid mongoloids damaging my property. I've been paid to fix many overtorqued and mangled drain plugs, often by replacing the oil pan because the design or lack of clearance would not permit repair in the vehicle. Typical lube monkey is yung, dumb and in a hurry. He overtightens parts, strips threads, crossthreads plugs, under-tightens or over-tightens oil filters and depending on the owner the oil you pay for may not be the oil you get. Remember you can't tell the difference without the container. Lube monkey isn't a career, it's something you do because you can't do better. If you cannot prove lube monkey left your filter or drain plug a bit loose and it unscrews a month or two down the road, good luck in court. Replacement engines aren't cheap and neither are removal, installation and other parts (hoses, belts etc). If you must outsource oil changes you may as well get your dealer to do them. You'll spend more money but unlike lube outfits a dealer has reputation to (sometimes) protect and much more importantly has access to new parts so if the dealer's lube monkey fucks up the dealer may be more willing to eat the fix.

General warnings:
When you buy tires watch to make sure the lugs are tightened with a torque wrench. A proper tire shop uses torque limiting sticks to run nuts down, then final tightens using a torque wrench. If you justsee Bubba with an impact, hope he doesn't crossthread, strip or crack your studs.

Because it makes no sense at all. You can just admit to people you dont work on your own car. Dont try to justify it and dont try to convince others to make the same poor decisions. It IS a shitty idea.

You arent taking your car to a mechanic, you are taking it to an unskilled idiot off the street who works at walmart or jiffy lube.

I worked at a Kmart as a first job. It shut down during the first rush of Kmart shutdowns like in 2010. One of my coworkers (who was odd and kinda going off the deep end) ended up getting a job at the jiffy lube across the street.

Said they just got high and sat around until a customer came in, and thats its a really chill job.
He isnt mechanically inclined at all, and it cemented my opinion of oil change places.

I rotate my tires myself because it's completely free, but if i am going to get new tires ill take it to a tire shop because they have a tire machine, i don't.

The only reason why i /diy/ with anything is if it is going to be more cost or time efficient if i just do it myself.

Changing oil is a simple task that my local lube shop does just fine while i shop for 20 minutes next door. Not sure how that is so hard to understand.

>I guess killing two birds with one stone has never made since to you

Saving all that precious time to shitpost on 4chan amirite?
Stop acting like you are losing money every second of the day if you spend a half hour every 3 months on changing your oil.

You are lazy and its going to bite you in the ass.

> I have a mechanic friend that finds it strange that i will change out the rear end myself but yet go get my oil changed by someone else

So even people IRL think you are retarded?
Good to know, he will give you a nice I told you so eventually

> just go to shitty ass places

You are the one going to places that work under cost and pay slave wages. Its not like you are going to a quality mechanic to get your oil changed.
If you were it wouldnt cost you $20

also to add to this, i wouldn't want a mechanic doing anything besides the oil change on my truck, it has 312,000 miles on it and they are bound to screw up something if they touch something besides just the oil

If you buy tires at walmart, they rotate your tires for free for a certain period of time.
Why arent you doing that? Do you know that rotating your tires takes TWICE as long as changing your oil? Also its cheaper for the tires!

TIme is money!

yes exactly, i don't have much free time in my life so the little bit of free time i do i have i don't want to be spending it doing something as simple as changing oil when i could've got it done while shopping.

I own and manage 3 rental properties, have an investment business that deals with corporate debt and a local handyman business. My life gets busy.

Its a childs job to change the oil.

>So even people IRL think you are retarded?
he just finds it strange. i guess most people only do the oil because they are retarded and that is all they know how to do and they think they are bad ass because they "work" on their car.

It's a childs job to change oil.

What exactly do you want me to say?

Concede that 30 minutes out of your day once every few months is worth putting your engine in jeopardy?

Do you understand that changing your oil regularly is not really important because your oil is burnt, but because the media in the oil filter starts to fail or the valve is opened. You can run modern oil for 10,000+ miles and still be protected, but its a horrible idea because oil filters dont last that long (especially the shit tier ones you are using).

Running black burnt oil with a new filter is going to protect your engine 100 times more than new oil with an old failing filter. It doesnt lubricate as well when it starts to get burnt, but the real damage in your engine comes from the particulates that the filter is supposed to filter out.
When you filter gets full, it has a valve inside that straight up allows oil to go right through and does 0 filtering at all.

Do you check to see if they change the filter every time?
How can you not give a fuck about putting the cheapest shittiest filters that dont filter well in your truck, how about the cheapest shittiest oils?

Its well known and been proven that lazy fucks at quick change places dont always change the filters.

How can you trust someone to not strip out your oil pan?
It only takes minutes of no oil to destroy your engine, it does happen when a slave is working to forget the drain plug or forget the oil in the first place. You could have a seized engine before you leave the parking lot.

Fighting with a jiffy lube to buy a new engine for your old shitbox truck is worth the time to you?

There are all sorts of pitfalls that these idiots could do.
How can the money you will have to put out, or the time and headache EVER be worth 30 minutes maybe twice a year?

For someone so intent on saving time, putting trust into a teenager to take care of your engine seems like a poor idea

honestly i only get a couple oil changes a year, my truck leaks oil and burns oil so it basically changes itself and i just go throw in a quart every once in awhile and then when i feel it's been awhile go get oil change

If you want to say "huurr duur thats so bad for your engine" i've been doing this for so long and have put so many miles on that truck and haven't had any problems

No, just someone who has a decent vehicle that makes sure its properly cared for.
You know, like the person who owned the truck before you and then sold it to you with 270k miles on it?

But at least we got down to why you are defying logic, its because you drive a shitbox and dont care about it.

You are 100% right about the filter thing.
A guy I know owns a black car service with a fleet of E-Class Mercedes. He hired a couple of minimum wage fucksticks to maintain his fleet.

As it turns out one by one his cars started suffering oil starvation. It took him a while to find out the "tech" was using an oil suction pump to lift oil out of the dipstick and never bothered to actually drain the pan or change filters because that would have required removing the undertray, therefore too much work.

These same people work at oil change places.
They are lazy.
Sometimes they won't even bother to replace the copper washers on the drain plug or even take out the old O ring for the filter, which causes the filter to not seal properly.

If it burns oil try going with a something thicker. Like 10w40 if you normally use 10w30.

Hi guys! After accident I'm searching for new off-road front bumper for Toyota FJ Cruiser. If you have such experience, can you recommend something for me?

Hey man. Did you try to make a search in internet? Nowadays you can find even good quality used spare parts. Also if you want to find new one, you should know what exactly do you need.
