Just built a new work bench for my garage.

Let's see /diy/'s workbenches!

Made this bench purely for site use. I'm able to roll it in and out of my Transit van and it's no wider than most pre-fab door frames so even after first fix dry lining I'm still able to move it from room to room.

No where near as stronk as my home work bench, but still strong enough for me to beat out sheet metal panels on.

What's the point of this? Seems like it just adds extra width and would pull loose over time.

No. I routed a slot on the legs and it's a coach bolt right through. When I lift one end the cross member with the wheels on drops to the floor and I tighten them with my impact wrench. So same idea but not fold down as such.

When they break off this is a good way of repairing it.

>massive glue surface area
>lower ground clearance
>wider centre of gravity
>improved screw shear strength

desu It's not finished.
Soon there will be a shelf which will provide extra bracing.

I also just applied a coat of danish oil to it. The top is only laying there and so are the vises.

No. I had some scraps lying around and I made it up as I went along. It's basically what you see there - not much to it. The hard part, which I wasn't able to do, was to get it to sit completely level. I have to lock 3 casters for it not to move around where I should only have to lock 2 of them.

>>988342
I didn't write that.

>>988390
The casters I used were wider than the end of the 2x4 so I had to add some more surface area. Everything is screwed and glued together. It's been solid so far. I also wanted the base to be wider to make it more stable, if that makes sense. I'm no engineer but I imagined it would make it less likely to tip over.

>>988405
That's brilliant. I wish I had thought of that. Saved. Thanks.

The proper way to do that would be to make it like this. Or use 4x4s as the legs. Both can still be done if you find the original is failing or in the way all the time.

A few times, yes. I initially bought them because some moron tried to drill out my bike lock, but ended up jamming it closed and giving up. Why they didn't just cut the thin braided steel cable I'll never know.

More recently I tend to use them to make rough cuts on brackets and the like when I can't be bothered to go outside and use a Hacksaw or grinder.

Previous owner left me a really wobbly table with a top made of uneven 2x6. 5 years ago I rebuilt it from the top down. MDF top was on the ground and I pulled pieces off the old bench to build a new one. Added wheels and flipped it over.

I put 3 coats of paint and about 7 layers of varnish over the MDF because MAN that stuff is fragile.

I have some drawers I pulled from the garbage that I want to add to it.

I bought a 60w self priming pump off Banggood and it works, although it's noisier than I'd like. I have to go down to a 1/4" pipe to fit under the door and I'm concerned that it will clog eventually, but so far so good.

I've also got a 2000w inline water heater but I haven't installed it yet.

yes, there's a screw in the back similar to the one on the shoulder vice you see in the front. there's a catch which allows it to slide back and fourth "automatically" on slides which are mounted on the underside. it can hold a board of 190cm (that's 6'3 for burgers) in length.

in order, from left to right: two sash planes/stick-and-rabbet (different forms), a moving fillister (made in Austro-Hungary), two panel-raising planes, two dovetail planes, a plough plane, and matching pair of adjustable tongue-and-groove planes. all of them are made by Johann Weiss and Son in Vienna, Austria (except the one from AH, made in Osijek/Esseg, Croatia by Josef Povischil).
the reason i have so many doubles is because i recently had a chance to buy an entire set of them from an old carpenter for bargain, and i'm holding to them because i can work with two different measures set.

i almost didn't sell it to him after seeing how nice it turned out, but money is money, lel

it's a pretty simple construction, lots of glueing, only thing is, you need a jointer/thicknesser because the stock must be of consistent thickness (which i don't have, luckily, a friend of mine has it, but still, it was an entire day worth of planing)
