So I'll be moving into a rather spacey 2BR complex in the next few weeks, and I'm really interested in making it look really nice. I've seen a lot of threads on this board where you guys have posted some amazing projects and design ideas (the lightbulb terrarium thread comes to mind) and I'd like to maybe accrue some images of living rooms as to give me an idea of what I could do, or maybe things I could build/buy to place in said room?

I'm open to anything, please and thank you.

Pic related, a picture I found in one of the aforementioned threads.

what all can you legally do with the place you're staying? i take it it's an apartment, right?

This is totally relevant to my interests. I'd be willing to brainstorm with you guys on a topic like this.

I'm not all too sure, really. I just can't modify the structure in any way that would be damaging, I would imagine. I'm not looking for building modifications as much as I am just furniture designs/placements and creative/interesting arrangements and useful items/storage methods.

It is an apartment complex though, It has two bedrooms (18.5'x11.5' and 12'x10'), a livingroom (15'x16.5'), full bath and a somewhat small kitchen/dining room. Altogether it's a very nice place and I'm hoping to do a lot of fun things with the space I am given.

Sorry for being a little vague, I'm not all too sure how to word this the way that I want to. :s

Oh, no, I speak English I just have trouble putting my thoughts on paper is all, nothing too severe.

I've got a lot of furniture already, so I'm not sure if that'd be too much a problem, but I'd like to try and save as much money as I can as far as purchasing more stuff. I don't currently have a job at the moment, but I am in the process of getting one.

At this moment I have:
2 large tables
2 end tables
1 coffee table
1 futon
1 rocking chair, 1 lazyboy recliner
minifridge
microwave
2 medium-sized dressers

Most of this stuff I've gotten from home, from friends, or I've bought from Goodwill

1. Logical
2. Clean
3. Classy

those are the 3 basic steps for perfect decoration for every kind.

Logic stands for, every thing you put should have purpose.
Clean stands for keep it minimal even if you dont like minimal stuff keep it as minimal as possible (but this should come easy if you keep it logic)
and classy , well keep it classy dont put things from different genres like ancient Egypt + Baroque this is pukey puke

Thank you! I'll certainly keep these three rules in mind when considering my decision.

As a requirement, though, I'd like to have some kind of christmas lights strung up in erry room, warm colors in the bedroom and cool colors in the living room. I've been looking into power saving alternatives (the LED lightbulb thread, Fluorescent lightbulbs, low-flow water faucets, etc.) and I'm wondering if this would be a good idea at all (I'm not sure as to how much wattage 70 count christmas lights cost as opposed to a single 60 watt/125 watt bulb) or if there are better alternatives. I'd like to get a very chill, calm environment though. Minimalism was a goal from the beginning, though.

those christmas lights look really nice, I especially like the the first picture OP posted.
this one guy I know has an apartment and has christmas lights in it, but it looks like shit, mainly because he's the typical college guy with an apartment. I can barely see the floor over there.

I'm in college myself, but I'd like to think I'm a lot tidier than most kids my age. I'm currently living with 5 other roommates right now (all of them are disgusting losers) and I'm moving out because of how dirty/messy/disgusting the house is and I'd rather just have a place to myself where I don't have to clean up after other people.

Maybe if all this works out and you guys give me some good ideas, I'll take pictures and make a followup thread.

I had loved these images the first time I had come across them on /diy/. There just seems to be issues with the heat these guys give off, especially when draped with flammable materials such as fabric.

I also wanted to make bottle lanterns, but I am a little intimidated about a cooling system for a bottle lantern that would be both practical and aesthetically pleasing.

Do wish I wasn't such a novice~

My memory is horrible on the subject as well. I do remember some helpful anons talking about mineral oil or just using LED versions. Neither seem like quite permanent solutions. (If the discussions from the submerged-in-oil computer cooling thread from a couple days ago turned out...)

I do remember everybody talking about how terrible of an idea that was, regardless of how cool it may have looked (if I were more savvy with computer hardware, I would have been tempted to try it myself).

If I can manage to pull it off, I might like to try something like this, perhaps.

It wouldn't be so bad if he was an intelligent, respectful, fun guy otherwise, but he isn't. He recently got two kittens that he doesn't have the money nor the interest to support them. He locks them in my bathroom for hours without food, water or a litterbox and then gets pissy with me when I make him clean up their shit/piss and give him issues for neglecting them. He breaks/steals my stuff (although I've broken into his room to reclaim what was mine and now stockpile all of my stuff in my room, until I move), and have installed a padlock onto my door, although I don't believe any of the pleb scum in this house know how to pick locks besides myself. Nobody has any respect for anybody else, and it's just really embarrassing to try and have friends come over and hang out when the house smells disgusting and there are 5 or 6 piles of trash-filled plastic bags sitting outside the front door because people can't be bothered to carry them to the dumpster.

I have gone to the landlord (lol, I'm 'that' roommate) several times, but he's informed me that unless he injures me or invites criminal activity on the premise, there's really nothing he or I can do about him.

I have a cat of my own who I care very much for, and his treatment of these two animals horrifies me, but I can't take them with me when I move.

I'm planning on calling some sort of service on him (SPC, I believe it's called? Animal control?) the day that I move out, as well as pouring skunk spray (you can find this in some sporting goods/hunting stores) into the vents of his car.

He leaves a huge tub of his dirty clothes out in the hallway which I pass every time I take a shower, it's been sitting there for about 2 months and hasn't moved, and over the past 5 weeks I occasionally take an article of clothing from it and throw it away. He never washes his clothes or moves the bin, and by now I've thrown away at least 1/4 of the shirts/pants that have been in there, and I highly doubt he has noticed.

bump for holy love of light strings

Check your local thrift stores this week, mine is overflowing with strings of christmas lights, half off since it's so close to Ye Holy Day.

I've already bought 5 strands for my RV, paid $5 for all of them (whites, colors, and one string of blue). I'm in love with them. Even more so than my "chinese lantern" thing, which I love more than my clip lamp, which I love immensely more than the fluorescent tubes my RV came with.

I like this idea. I have a strand of 50 clear lights. I'll have to see if I have a big enough vase sitting around. I personally like saving pictures of organized rooms. Since I do a lot of crafting. Still in the process of reorganizing and getting rid of stuff. 25 years of packrat/hording stuff is hard to break. But my husband has really helped me break free and our bed is starting to feel really comfortable. Still got some stuff to go through though.

>> No.99344

>>99336

Really glad to hear that. Be careful with the vaselight thing, that will get unbelievably hot unless you find a solution or get some kind of cooling system. All in all, I think it might be too much hassle than it's worth, but that's just me.

Unless you use leds, one annoying part is they generally have a much bluer light.

Most of the big chains around here have started to stock mostly led christmas lights, things run cool to touch.

Heres a pic of something I made today to add some light to my room.

So I have two strings of purple and orange non-LED strings. I wanted to make a bottle lantern with them but because of how hot they get I need to use them for something else~

Any suggestions?

We have a wooden bunk bed and I'm considering stapling the purple lights to the bottom of the top bunk, but it's wood. And hot lights.
