How could I create a cheap surveillance for a hallway?

I was thinking of using a cheap webcam, some sort of cheap monitor like for dashcams.

Can anyone fill in on the specifics?

Old mobile phones are good for shit like this. I have an old ZTE blade running am app, if I recall correctly its called ipcam. You can then view it with any Android device with another app called tinycam monitor. You can open it to teh Internet's if you like or not. Password protect and the shit. Security is something I don't have a clue about on these apps....

Get some guineafowl and put them in the hall. Anytime someone walks in they set off an alarm.
