it wont just be your carpet, it'll be the walls and then the sawdust will float through the whole house. have you ever cleaned a place to get your bond back? shit is fucking messy. ok maybe if you wrap your whole house in wax paper you can do it.

Obvious question: why don't you want to leave the living room? If the item you want to sand can be removed from the room, then remove it from the room.
