Intermodal houses, which are /diy/'s favorite idea to shit on. The thing is, I did NOT take that picture in a wealthy neighborhood, I took it less than a block away from a major freeway.

So there needs to be a trained professional or two overseeing the construction of a concrete shell, is that what you're saying?

Do you even know how shipping containers work? The roof and walls are not designed to carry any load at all.

>>813211
Okay, so why don't you just live in the concrete shell?

Multiple layers will give the structure strength and insulation. Plus, it's easier to design.

>> No.813225

This thread is so fucking confusing, is the op talking to himself or what, concrete buildings are not container houses, the two isn't fucking related, what the fuck is fucking going on

Also, yes container houses are bad idea in general

Just buying concrete culvert sections would be easier and cheaper then pour concrete over a shipping container.

That seems lazy, and I would really like multiple layers of protection.

What happens if the concrete cracks? The entire shelter would be useless, whereas with my design I can apply strengthening and waterproofing materials.

You can do the same with the culvert.

>implying wet concrete isnt heavier than dry dirt
>implying steel rebar isnt heavy as fuck
>implying the concrete wont just cave in the container as soon as you try to pour it

can you guess why I was googling for "hydraulic vibrator" yesterday? I was trying to find a way to transfer energy for a... low frequency, high impact back massager by maybe repurposing a junk master cylinder and brake calipers.

turns out these things are great for creating temporary retaining walls. so if you wanted to make such an underground bunker, it seems like you could just get rows of these interlocking sheet piles driven into the ground.
