Meh, i've seen a lot of people do that, and do it way better.

>> No.694888

If you wanted to make it cool you should remove the wood and put the glass on the motor.

agreed, whats the point of the engine block if it's not actually functioning as the table? you built a regular table around the block

A classic case of want but can't. You know tables big enough to fit engine blocks are readily available right?

here's the classic example of how you do it. not stuffing an engine into a coffee table.

Thanks for the advice. I will return to this project later (possibly in winter)

This was a quick and cheap method, I agree.

and the bottom of the block s actually cut away or broken off. You can see the exterior of the cylinder sleeves. That's awesome.

It looks like you've just crammed an engine block inside of an existing, functioning coffee table.

You shouldnt have painted it at the very least. Also, nice to see another turk here.

My wife is concerned about coffee tables since we're having a baby in January.

What are some good, safe coffee tables that my son won't smash his skull open on when he falls into it? Or should I just ditch the idea of a coffee table all together?

Get one made of styrofoam! :^)

Really though, most retail stores (Babies R Us I know for a fact has them) has soft silicone edges you can place on the corners of coffee tables/tables/etc so your kid doesn't poke his eye out on them if you're that concerned about it. As far as him tripping on it, then I don't know.

I like the versions that use the pistons to hold the glass

I don't care if he trips, I just don't want him to die or lose anything. Well, my wife is the most concerned.

if you protect the edges of the coffee table your son is just going to find something else to smash his head into...

best bet is hope he's a quick learner.. or that he gets some kind of trama induced brilliance...

A little bit of head injury builds character

this was my first thought but I didnt want to be a dick to OP since he tried.

you could even drill holes in the head or whatever and mount glass mounts. then glue a thick glass panel to the mounts.
