Gonna make my own one og these.

What are the "tube diodes" called? Because i'll need to buy them. Anyone knows where to get?

>> No.68078

Nixie tube. Ebay.

Be prepared to pay out of your ass.

if you didn't know those were called nixie tubes, you're gonna have a bitch of a time finding the code and programming the processor.

You can buy complete kits minus the tubes from electronics stores. No skill required. Just money.

is this jive usually done through arduino?

No, but Arduino works too.

i'd check out PV electronics. i have the IN-8-2 kit.

i hope you can solder (since you didn't know they're nixie tubes)

in the pic is mine, in testing mode hence all the 5

still need to make a enclosure for it

You guys are kinda funny, considering the only modern-day use for nixies are clocks like in OP's picture.

>> No.68103

>>68100
your point?

>> No.68105

>>68103

That it's silly to assume that the OP can't solder, because he didn't know the name of those tubes. Duh.

>> No.68107

>>68100
problem is that ain't a clock. it's a divergence meter.

>> No.68123

>>68105
you're being thrown to death with them on any electroncis blog/forum/whatever. i've even seen lots of nixie clocks on /b/. why would it be a tube diode as the OP calls it. why would it be a diode. why would a diode be this big and have numbers in it. OP just sounded very inexperienced to me, i didn't want to be an asshole but the way he discribed it gave me the feeling of someone who has seen something cool and without knowing what he/she is doing wants to replicate it. (like the countless high school kids that want to build a tesla coil,--> oh hey i have this 25v 100uf cap how can i make a testla coil with it?)

so i didn't want to be an ass but he just sounds very inexperienced

What do you mean tubes can't be diode? How do you think pre-solid-state electronic engineers turned AC into DC? The term diode comes from tube terminology where triodes and pentodes were amplifiers and diodes were rectifiers. Like now. Transistor terminology comes from tubes. Lrn2lrn.

but yeah, these things are very popular with the steampunk crowd, so now that you know what these anachronistic bulbs are, google does the rest.

Completley unrelated but i have to laugh at your post number. it has 8088 in it..which reminds me of the days i spent with ye old intel 8088..
