The lock on my bedroom door doesn't work. Are these security bars worth shit or do I need to install something?

Bedroom door? As in hollow core, held on by 2 hinges with a crap doorknob? Dude, if someones wants to kick in that kind of door a security bar isn't gonna do shit for you. It would be like tying up your bike with a padlock and a rope.

Whatever. I mostly want to for privacy so my family doesn't randomly enter when I'm watching hentai or some shit.

replace the doorknob dumbass. It costs less than the fucking security bar

And maybe install a dead bolt?

A cheap locking door from walmart will cost you under ten bucks. You usually only need a philips head screwdriver to install them.

doesnt matter what the door is. all security can be circumvented. internal doors arn't meant to keep anyone out. they're hollow and cheap because usually not all doors need to be firedoors or security doors.

>>615915
that bar looks useless. a chair would work better.

this.

I got news for you son: If you're living under your parents' roof and they want to come into your room at any time for any reason, they're going to do it, and there's nothing you can do to stop them. If you put a lock on your door the first thing they're going to say is they want a key, or they'll tell you NO, you can't lock your door. If you're underage then you basically have ZERO rights of any kind and the only rights to any "privacy" you have aren't even 'rights', they're a 'privilege' they graciously grant you, revokable at any time for no reason in particular. Hell, when I was growing up, if I had bought and installed any sort of lock on my bedroom door? My dad would have beat my ass bloody for it. You want privacy? You want rights? Wait until you're 18 and move out on your own. So long as you live with your parents, doesn't even matter how old you are, you have essentially NO rights of any kind, and you're obliged to follow whatever rules they set down. Deal with it.

I pity you for having brought up with this sort of parenting.

Simple hasps with a pen or rod or padlock through them are pretty good.

No one has "rights". "Rights" are something more powerful people than you give you in order to control you. They can take them away at any time. Same goes for, "privileges".

are you the samefag who would get beaten bloody by your father? How horrifying.

op, move your desk to face the door. Less suspect than modifying your door. If your parents are so fucked that you're this worried about it, think about emancipating yourself and suing for child support

You seem like a bad person. Your parents seem like bad people too. People who think like that shouldn't have any animals under their care. I'd even feel bad for their house plants.

What do you need that a large rubber door stop cannot do?

Just put a pad lock or dead bolt on the door, sound proof to. Try a do not disturb note on the door.
There are some pretty effective ways to keep them far away from your door even when it's wide open. I would not recommend any of them.

If you are going to install a deadbolt ( or any other lock for that matter ) it can be a good idea to not use the screws that come with them most deadbolts i have bought come with inch and a quarter screws or less if you are really worried about someone breaking why not throw a few 3 inch screws in there instead
