What is the least expensive tool I can use to put holes through some seashells?

I am trying to teach some non-USA non-christian kids about Christmas (just keeping it simple- they don't even know world religions so christmas is just the most obvious thing to teach) and want to do an ornament-making activity. I already have a ton of seashells and would rather just put some ribbons through them and let the kids put glitter on them etc. This is a non-christian nation so there aren't blank ornaments for coloring at every store.

Plus the kids know I came from a beach town so something more "local" to me will pique their interest.

Anyway yeah, I just need to get some holes through these shells. I don't really want to spend 70$ to do a Christmas activity with the kids, much as I love em.

If you're willing to spend a little time you could literally just take a cheap screw driver and a small screw and "drill" holes. Obviously the kids can't do it, but it would be super cheap.

you're the jewiest christian i know
go peddle your imaginary friend in the sky elsewhere and leave these kids be

OP, get a set of jewelers screwdrivers with the hex nut ends, and use the phillips heads to bore holes. Kid safe and relatively cheap.

This is why /diy/ can't have nice things.

OP here.

It's kind of useless to skip Christmas when you're teaching foreign culture. It takes over the rest of the world for nearly 2 months. I ain't even Christian but you've gotta recognize the massive effect christianity has had on western nations.

Are you guys serious that I can just push through with screwdrivers? Because that sounds like some BS.

Just use a fucking drill bit and borrow a hand drill from somewhere.

You can use a screwdriver but it will take you a month of sundays to do.

What you need to do is drill a hole in some shells. So use a drill.

Shits just calcium carbonate, a brittle, powdery compound. You could use a knife blade to so the same thing. Just slowly and carefully rotate whatever tool you have on hand till you wear through.

get glass/tile bits from the local hardware store
pic related

Just punch a hole through them with your fist. No fucking seashells are gonna tell YOU what you can do.

If you're too much of a poor motherfucker to buy some cheap tools, you can drill them with a bow drill and some stone bits like a prehistoric times.

>> No.565546

try one of those tiny off brand dremels. they're usually less than $20.

even better i saw a tiny rotary tool for like $6 in Big Lots here in the states something like that with a small bbit would be perfect. Don''t know how brittle/hard sea shells are so I'd go slow. I was drilling holes a turtle shell today and they're quite sturdy, although that's kinda what they're made for (being sturdy not drilling)the case is probably different for sea shells, but still slow is the way to go.
