is there any way you guys can help me make an efficient emp gun at home? thanks!

>> No.541092

not sure if it will work op bit i m ganna give it a try.

i'm takeing a secondary coil from a microwave transformer and have a bank of smallish caps dump into it. io dont know anything about this so i'm not too sure if i am ganna need a iron core for it or if i need high voltage caps.

>I don't know anything about playing with high voltage electronics but I'm going to do it anyway

Other than the obvious fact that this is a stupid situation to put yourself in in the first place, I'll point out that the core of the transformer is going to absorb a lot of the flux the pulse generates.

Your pic looks like a coil gun. Are you trying to make a device that uses electromagnets to launch a projectile or are you trying to generate enough webers to damage electrical devices at a distance?

There is no such thing as an "EMP gun".
EMPs only occur because of the detonation of a nuclear bomb.

Go do your homework, or your chores, or play your Xbox, or something.
If there's some kid you don't like go punch him in the mouth like any other kid would do and stop trying to make shit out of science fiction.

541161, we all started somewhere, go fuck yourself
541092, transformers are designed to minimize leakage so any pulse you manage to make will be contained by the core, you might also kill your capacitors if they are electrolytic and you have no diodes to protect them

lol I've seen you comment the same thing in all /diy/

Do you hate kids, or not necessarily kids, but misguided people or something?

Take door off microwave, stick your head in so you get a better view, turn it on and do society a favour, howzat

EMP = ElectroMagnetic Pulse

A pulse is a short burst of electromagnetic energy of any kind. A camera flash is a type of weak EMP device. A lot of BBQs have push button lighters that are a type of weak EMP device. Neuron firing in your brain is EMP.

You don't need an nuclear device to make an EMP. Even smaller ones intended to disrupt electronics don't need to be nuclear powered.

this project is clearly over your head and playing around with high voltage coils is legitimately dangerous.

wrong. also, way to /thread your own comment dipshit

i would be careful researching and starting threads on this subject. i'm sure you are an innocent teenager who just wants to nuke his friends sensitive electronics as a prank, but federal law enforcement types are extremely paranoid about the damage that could be done to infrastructure by a single "lone wolf" terrorist with a small electromagnetic pulse weapon. don't get your door kicked in.

No need for all that hassle. Hammer works just fine.

There have been EMP generators rigged up for testing...Baldy the Wonder SEAL demonstrated one on Future Weapons.

A handheld EMP device would be pretty inefficient though.

The advanced safety mechanism generally employed being a button. Or maybe a switch. In any case, it's easily above the calibre of the denizens of /diy/ to disable, for sure.

There's usually 2-3 buttons that are pressed to complete the circuit when the door is fully closed. They are great for salvaging and using for other things.

To my knowledge, there are actually several switches, and at least one of them tends to be obfuscated somewhat. Additionally, some microwaves are designed in such a way that bypassing only some of these will blow a fuse particularly violently, probably to discourage ignorant experimentation.
