So I have this misc parts bin I received from someone who didn't want it anymore. It is organized somewhat but overall is just a dusty mess. I honestly don't know what half the posts are,but I'm really interested to find out. I am just starting to learn about electronics... my question is how should I sort them? Google for ID but how do you guys organize your stuff? Just curious. Pic semi related...

TLDR how does diy organize their parts?

Old jars for larger stuff. The little plastic drawer things for smaller stuff. Pic related.

That picture is better than porn. Also, I like these little boxes (from Hobbyking) for grub screws and other tiny parts. Can't fit much in them though.

these, these and tackle boxes
Zoom in on the bottom right for a great way to sort resistors

Also pro tip for resistors. Put the put the same value of all ranges in the same box. (ie 10/100/1k/10k... all in the same box 120/1.2k/12k...)

Dont know the proper English name but I have those things which look a bit like:

But are bigger, to hang on your wall and hold photos and shit, they're very cheap and don't extend from the wall that much

I find that for small stuff like in this image, those cheap, clear plastic, fishing lure containers work best.

I have these tiny plastic storage boxes that you can plug together. There is no better way to neatly organize smd parts in my opinion.

I put components in zip lock bags, then put all the bags in shoe boxes.

I can read most values on resistors pretty quickly now, so hunting for one isn't that difficult.

Not difficult, but time consuming and frustrating. How long it'll take until you give up on trying to find some particular value and substitute it with something else?

I don't give up because I succeed.
