Loft bed thread. I thought it would be a cool /diy/ thread since they're fairly easy to build and you can do some interesting things design wise with them.

Post any pics, advice, etc.

Yeah it's hard to find pics without them being of kids rooms. If you have a small room I think it's fine though, since it saves a lot of space.

My room is so small I can't fit both a bed and desk, so I don't have much of a choice.

I like it. I've be a little nervous about dirt and shit from the desk level falling on the bed. This concern would go away if I could role the bed under the desk level; it looks designed for that, but I don't see rollers on the bed, so I'm not sure.

If it does role under the desk level though, then you have to get a little worried about how easily it gets stuck if you don't make the bed. You'd want an easy way of fixing it if it starts to break.

>> No.482936

>>482901
Probably have to slide the bed in the pic. Add some rollers and add a little more height to the platform so it'd fit better with pillows, and I think the idea would work pretty well. Wouldn't have to worry about banging against the ceiling during sex, either.

loft beds are okay until you get sick and feel really weak then its a pain to get in/out of bed and people can't help you eat/take meds so you need to come back down.

Does anyone have examples//experience on a ceiling mounted loft bed? I live in a room that is basically a concrete cube. Is it practical? Safe? Less squeaky?

My idea was to mount 2x4's to the wall which will hold 3 corners and a thick chain to the ceiling for the 4th corner

Any advice?

I'll be living in an apartment, so I'm looking for a simple design that won't take up much space.
Also, would anyone happen to have the dimensions for a frame that would fit a twin bed?

Made this for my son. The table folds down, or can be easily removed to add another mattress where the 2x6 along the back runs. Access to the bed is through the foot.

OP here, thanks for posting pics looks like you did a good job. The fold down desk is cool too. Did you get plans online or just design it yourself? My only concern is making sure it's sturdy, I don't want the top to fall in and flatten my computer.

this is exactly what ive been looking for.

I may need to move back to my parents house soon, and was thinking of building something like this in the backyard, so I could hang on to at least a shred of privacy. I dont have much building experience, but I have plenty of friends who I could enlist to help me. any /diy/ers know how hard this would be to build with a small team and little know how? any good resources online that could teach me?

>implying it's not night, that insulation is 100% effective, and there are no open windows. Honestly, getting kinda annoyed with the kiddos who learned about thermodynamics from 4chan and continue to regurgitate the same shit over and over again without realizing how many factors are involved with the situation in which they now feel like they're the master of the topic.

I had a thread here for a few months about building a small trailer with the purpose of living in it...pretty much the same concept. I've spent about 3k on it so far, and I'm just at the point where I'm living in it (no a/c, on grid, no windows, no flooring). You could probably do it cheaper by going with cheap siding, fiberglass insulation and the whole avoiding making it mobile. I doubt there's anyone here who's saved the thread on their pc (myself included), but you could probably get a good headstart by going to lowes and checking out their sheds. There's two or three I could see converting into a small home.

I'll sage as this isn't related to loft beds, but I am interested in building one.

I designed it from scratch. The fold-down desk has a 1" dowel rod for a hinge. Steven (the then-five year old wanted something with some privacy, so I kinda went nuts with the 2x lumber. My wife, myself, and both kids have been on it and it's rock solid. The corner posts were made with a 2x4 tied to a 2x6 to make "angle wood."

We also tried it out one night when the kids were at Grandma's house. No squeaking while freaking, but you have to watch the ceiling.

If you're in or near a college town, go look at some backyard efficiency apartments or mother-in-law houses. You can live comfortably in an 8' by 12' space, and lumber and other things come conveniently cut to an 8' length. A few people could throw one up in a weekend.

Think: Bathroom and kitchenette back to back. The bathroom wall is the only interior wall. Only furniture is a bed, a chifferobe, and a table and chairs. If you want extra space, loft the bed a few feet and use storage underneath. Electronics could go in a well-designed corner space.

sex on a loft bed is not really a problem and even offers some new positions ;) (as long as the ceiling is far enough away and you fixed the bed to the walls)

I have one and really like the additional free room I got from it...
