So this might be a dumb idea.... but is there any reason I can't make a screw terminal out of scrap plastic/metal and screws ? On that note, can I use wood instead of plastic? Or is this a really bad Idea that is likely to cause problems???? I'm needing the terminal to wire the grounds and inputs of a xbox 360 controller to a db25 connector.... I want to be able to easily test and reconfigure the pins if i need to and a screw terminal sounds like that I need.... I just don't have 10$ to buy one.... so ya..../diy/ can i diy a screw terminal out of wood or plastic ?

sure. but its a pain to drill all those holes for the wires and screws. and with wood the screws eventually won't hold and the wires will keep falling out. it'll be easier to just get a bag of small wire nuts.

Wire wrap would work if OP _had_ square posts and solid strand wires. Read the diagram which explains how it works.

Otherwise, it is better just to twist the stranded wires together for short term.

for OP's project, a small breadboard would work best, coz you just pull out a wire from one place and plug it in elsewhere. takes 2 seconds. as for terminal blocks, dunno where the $10 price comes from; they cost 50 cents at the surplus electronics place near me. another cheap alternative is to use an IC socket like a breadboard, by soldering the two pins on each side together, (1 to 14, 2 to 13, etc).

Wire wrap is pretty neat. If you're doing more than 100 pins, get a wire wrap gun and an unwrap tool.

Only if you're using composite wood.
