Anyone know the best and cheapest way to create a Dry Erase Board?

Goal = 24 x 36 for less than $35 ('cause that's what it costs at Staples).

Write on your windows.

or a cheap mirror

In fact, pretty much anything with a polished surface will do.

No. It doesn't. Not WELL.

I've bought 5 different types of "polished" material to write on, and they either take too much effort to erase, or the marker coagulates into barely visible blobs.

If OP wanted perfect, he'd just spring for the proper board.

Not white = stupid.

>>45418

Also stupid due to it reflecting what's in front of it.

I used a piece of glass and gessoed the back of it.
I suggest Liquitex brand gesso.

Not perfect -- just not utterly inconvenient.

To get ideas from capable or experienced people.

So far, most of the replies suggest otherwise.

Sounds like you should just buy a board.
Or use this awesome stuff called paper.

1) get a large enough picture frame (used, stolen, from a garage sale, whatever)

2) replace picture with plain white paper

3) enjoy

These two are the best I've seen so far in this thread.

You want someone who's experienced in dodging up a whiteboard? Are you serious?

>> No.45517

The only shit that is going to be remotely like an actual white board is specially made paint, which will cost more than that.

piece of sturdy cardboard + can of high gloss white spraypaint

Get a piece of glass (picture frame preferably) and put a piece of white paper behind the glass.

Go to an art supply store and buy a 20x30 piece of sticky back foam core for $5 and stick it on your wall.

You better hope that blurry smudge doesn't see her name on that whiteboard.

>> No.45922

Going to the dollar store and buying a dry erase board. break off the frame (and trim any bits that have been RUINED FOREVER) and just attach them together. I'd say gluing them to a larger piece of plywood or w/e would work

you could also just use chalk instead, chalk writes on p much anything and "chalkboard paint" is available. also, you can just get a big chalkboard. or a big piece of sheet rock, even, who gives a fuck

>> No.45936

Home Depot and Lowes carry a dry erase paint. Find flat surface. Paint on. Let dry. Boom, dry erase board.

>> No.46158

>>45936

This. I have a 4' x 8' dry erase board in my shop office to write out all sorts of shit. The guys thought I was just trying to be cheap until they saw how big and how handy it was. 4' x 8' sheet of plywood was like 8$ at most and I think the paint was like 20-30$..so stil in your price range.

>> No.48254

has anyone tried plain ol' untextured white linoleum?

>> No.48278

Go to a thrift store, I bought like three of them including a HUGE one with a metal frame and marker/eraser holder for $5

>> No.48300

clear acrylic sheet from the hardware store, paint the backside whatever color you want. black for neon dry erase markers, white for regular.
