Time to replace this cat pole.
I made this one about 10 years ago, and it's now worn out.
It's made from 1/4" sisal but I made the new one from 3/8" sisal

I Used a newspaper as a "wrap-a-round" and cut it with a hand saw. Tube from a carpet or Linoleum roll

It was more work than I remembered. Having a helper to unroll the sisal and keep twisting the roll to keep it tight helped a lot.

First 50' done and dry. Wrapped 14" of the pole.
Finished the end. The sisal has 3 strands, and at the end, I cut it down to 2 where it passed the end, and finally 1 strand to finish it.
Drilled a hole here and made it bigger with a file

What the hell happened to plain ol' elmers wood glue? Now it's a "special" formula that's stainable, weatherproof, and too fucking expensive. I used this cheaper stuff from Lowes, they usually have quality stuff (at least compared to malwart). Turned out to be good stuff. It got tacky quickly which really made the ends of the pole easier.

TA-DA
COST = about $37 for a 5' pole

T-nuts = $1.50 (Lowes)
glue = $5 (Lowes)
5 rolls of 3/8"x50'sisal @ $6 each (malwart)

4 rolls would have done it with a little smaller tube, the one I used was 4-1/4" OD

This is my baby, Mousey. We never really named her. When she was a small kitten she would stand up on her back legs like a mouse and we were referring to her as "the mouse looking one" and it just stuck. Coincidentally, she's the only one that likes to chew/rip paper.

I have all sorts of wood lying around, but ya pet shops want about 10X what any play item is worth to just make around here. I always laugh at people buying cardboard pads for $20, you can go to any grocery store and they'll give you ANY amount of cardboard for free. non toxic glue is like $2, too easy...

Good job, OP. Now, I have to ask, does the fact that you live with several cats contributet to your stained and generally poor environment? I am wary of keeping cats in my house as I don't like them going anywhere they like. The corgi know he is only allowed on his share of the sofa (with a fur-blanket) and nowhere else. Cats, on the other hand, go where they please.

yes, it does look that bad.
if you have pets, you are fully responsible for the mess they make. if you can't have pets and find time to clean up after them, then you probably shouldn't have pets at all.
the state of OP's old cat pole, plus the stained walls and abhorrent carpet leads me to think he neglects a lot of things before he finally takes care of them, which is bad for the animals and for his own health. plus why would you wanna live in a place that is visually unappealing?
pic is what my cat would look like if he were able to judge you.

Too lazy to beat the wife and the floor is pretty much my workshop even though I have an actual room dedicated to DIY stuff.
Cats are trainable. Ours don't get on the furniture or kitchen cabinets, table ect. They are pretty much spoiled but If I raise my voice you should see 'em come to attention. Shithead was pretty hard to train, or it just seems that way cause it's been 10 years+ since I trained the others. I finally had to use the kitchen sprayer on his head and traumatize him a little to break him of getting on the counter tops. You just have to make sure they get more positive attention than negative. I wouldn't recommend doing that to a cat that doesn't get lots of lovin'.

*gasp* Not the anon you are replying to, but be careful, thems fightin' words!

Also, as a fellow country mouse, where you live should not have a bearing on how clean your house is. My house is very clean, and that's with 2dogs, 3 cats and a large garden to tend.

So clean your shit fellow country anon.
