Hey /diy/ dudes,
Has anyone here ever built their own RC plane? I've know my way around the electronics, but i've never actually flown/built one..

I'm thinking i want it to look like the Devastator from Crimson Skies (pictured) but i'm not sure how i'd go about the push propeller..

Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

also thinking about adding a rudder/vertical stabilizer to the front, and getting rid of the ones on the wings- thoughts?

look around online and see if there are any rc clubs in you area, go and learn to fly using there planes before you build one. also top wing planes are great for beginners.

pic related, some of my planes

You can make anything fly with enough power if it's light enough. Not a flippant answer as my friends buy foam sheets from the dollar store to make their planes. The electronics and motors they use, however, is not cheap.

If you have not played the original computer game, it is now your mission to download it off pirate bay. The Xbox one doesn't have shit on the original.

If you can make a flying lawnmower, you can make anything fly.

1. Roll
2. Search last three digits on national pokedex
3. Draw Pokemon
4. Post
optionally: Rate others and roll again

If your number is over 649 reroll or divide by two

that is the most jacked up piece of shit ive ever seen

dude if you have never built or flown an rc plane that is not the place to start.

its push, its a biplane, and its got weird ass rudders.

not sure that plane would actually fly man. planes dont look like that for a reason

actually, the lawnmower deck was a wing

True, but if that can fly, then so can something like OP's plane.

After looking at it, I am assuming the plane is a canard-------and is shown pointing forward to the right of the photo?...

Two thoughts:
...they make pusher prop setups for RC planes. I don't know where to get one right off, but they are out there though it might not be the cheapest option. Trying to make one would be a waste of time & money, unless you had access to the same kinds of equipment used to make RC propellers (nylon injection-molding equipment, $$$$$)

...the plane has no vertical stabilizer, so you would need to make "drag rudders". That means clamshell rudders, or split ailerons and the mechanism to operate them. Again--involves some work, but not hardly impossible, and doesn't take machine tools to do. And might not fly with the snappiest responsiveness. But anyway.

Flying wings used clamshells or split ailerons to substitute for having a vertical stabilizer/rudder.
