I recently got in my head the idea that I should make some pens. I've seen some really nice looking ones online, and have most of the tools I'd need to get really nuts with it, if need be. I inherited a 12"x36" old Craftman wood lathe(3/4"x16TPI), have a nice full sized drill press, and about a million ways to cut my own blanks. So far I've just ordered some of the basics, respirator, mandrel, drill bit, few kits and blanks, superglue and sandpaper to polish them up nicely. Having never actually used a lathe, do you guys have any tips for the pens?

I saw a pen made from a pine cone, the guy used lots of clear resin to reinforce it and then turned it down to the pen shape.

Most sites I see also sell corncobs.

Scrolled through 16 pages looking for one of these before I posted one. I just made my first few Slimeline twist pens(They were the cheapest on PSI). Any tips for a newbie?
