Welcome to /diy/, a place to:

Post and discuss /diy/ projects, ask questions regarding /diy/ topics and exchange ideas and techniques.

Please keep in mind:
- This is a SFW board. No fleshlights or other sex toys.
- No weapons. That goes to >>>/k/. The workmanship and techniques involved in creating objects which could be used as weapons (e.g., forging steel for a blade, or machining for gunsmithing) may be discussed in /diy/, but discussing the actual use of weapons is disallowed.
- No drugs or drug paraphernalia >>>/global/rules/1. If you want to discuss something that could involve such things (eg carving a tobacco pipe from wood) that's fine, but make sure it's /diy/ related and doesn't involve drugs or it will result in deletion/ban.

Some friendly suggestions for posting:

- First ask Google, then ask /diy/. Your question will probably be better received if you do so.
- List available resources (tools, materials, budget, time, etc.)
- Try to use pictures and explain the goal, if possible
- Be patient, this is a slow board; your thread will be around for days.
- Share your results! /diy/ loves to see problems solved and projects completed!

Quick question: I'm actually here because I wanted to know if anyone knew how to make medieval guns/"pirate style" blunderbusses. This is perfectly legal in my state and for the purpose I'm making them for (as art pieces and replicas), it doesn't actually matter if the work (though I'd prefer them to for authenticity's sake).

You're probably thinking dildos and fleshlights but there were a load of threads about bdsm gear and locks, it was odd to say the least.

>> No.437813

Don't wanna bump any useful threads by making one for something so inane, so I'll ask this in the sticky:

Does anyone ever go to any of the other boards and immediately wonder why they ever left /diy/? This seems to be the only board where people converse with each other like civilized human beings, without losing that 4chan edge that places like R eddit lack.

This summer, I am mounting a motor on a bicycle at a coworkers request. He wants it to use pic related for fuel if possible. How different is a propane motor from a weed eater or lawn mower engine? Fabricating parts isn't an issue.

So I'm working on a desktop CNC machine but ALL the fucking MDF tends to crack/split. This shit is 12mm thick. Pre-drilled to 2mm, use 3mm screws and before the even get the slightest pull the MDF starts to split

Will thicker MDF help? Or is there any other cheap wood that comes in ~12-15mm thick, is strong enough and does not require fucking table saws to cut?

>> No.438789

>>438750
yea, there are special screws for mdf.they have a wider thread which helps prevent tearout. i'd go with plywood. If ou dont have a table saw, the shop will usually cut it for you.

...but discussing drugs does not violate Rule #1. That rule only exists so that Moot doesn't have to deal with any legal bullshit. We can discuss crime because fuckyeah1stAmmendment, we just can't make 4chan a crime or confess to serious crime without breaking the rules.
I would have just written "No drugs or drug paraphernalia because we don't want that bullshit here, nor do we want the dumbshits such discussion would bring. There's more interesting things to discuss." or something.
Just saying.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you apprentice? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in electronics, and I've been involved in numerous remodeling jobs, and I have built over 300 projects. I have completely redone my sewer and water lines. You are nothing to me but grease under my fingernails. I will out design you with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with criticizing my work over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am designing a bot that will search for you across the USA and your tools are being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, amateur. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your workshop. It's fucking hosed, talented /diy/er I can design anything, anywhere, anytime, and I can out perform you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with a pencil and paper. Not only am I extensively trained in trigonometry, but I have access to 3 full roll around toolboxes and several power tools and I will use them to their full extent to out build your miserable ass off the face of /diy/, you little hack. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit sawdust all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking scrap, kiddo.
