Most pallets are impregnated with toxic insecticide. In fact, it's a law in some places.

Nice work. I think I would of painted the headboard with some black stripes to match the orcas.

Have you thought of mounting a lamp to the headboard?"

In all honesty I think it looks cheap, but I think that for all pallet projects where they just nail them together. I always thought taking them apart and using the individual pieces to build stuff looks nicer and gives more variation to what you can build

Well but you could go ahead and pick up some ordinary scrap wood or planks, no need to make something out of a pallet then

Pallets are fairly easy to get and you end up with a lot of the same same sized wood.

>> No.415632

Chemically treated pallets tend to be funny colors so its easy to tell that they have been treated. Blue is common where I'm at. They also tell you how they have been treated. Look for pallets without any paints on them and either Heat Treated or HT stamped on them somewhere. That means they were dried in a kiln instead and are safe (baring something nasty spilling on them after the fact).

This is 100% untrue

Any BLUE pallet made by CHEP, or any RED Pallet made by PECO are complete safe to use, and are chemical free. These pallets are easy to ID, and are clearly marked with the company names. These pallets are only used domestically in the US, mostly with grocery shipping. The pallets are own and controlled by the companies that make them, therefore they are never used to transport any hazardous materials. That being said, the pallets could be misused, but if the pallet appears clean, with no visible stains, it should be safe to use.
