Dear DIY.
So I have decided it is time to construct for myself a super secret underground hideout. I have never built anything before save for a tree fort and homemade snowboard terrain. I have a 500-1000$ budget. Wat do?

The plan right meow is to dig a rectangular hole 11ft deep 16x20, line the walls with 2x4s and plank the roof, then put a tarp over. Gravel the bottom, add stairs and a trap door, then cover with dirt and grass again. Anything I'm missing?

Also I'm a good 30 ft above the water table, and the tarp will (hoipefully) divirt any water flow away from le structure.

>Shipping Container As An Underground Shelter
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3EAJex1RVo

Notice he caps it with cement, and says in the vid that the surrounding ground is rock.

>Final attempt to record building of an underground shelter using a 20 ft. shipping container. For those wondering why I didn't simply pile dirt over it without pouring a concrete cap first..... These containers are mostly sheet metal. Heavy duty as it is, the roof and sides will push inwards from the weight. Eventually the metal will rust through and you'll be buried alive. My way will insure it is still there a few hundred years from now. Problem is, you'd better keep an eye on your sump pump. If it goes bad or loses power, you'll go in one day and find it the whole thing flooded. A surface alarm letting you know the water level is above where it should be isn't a bad idea. Putting the sump pump on a UPS is also a good thing.

There is so little soil on top of there that it's negligible compared to the amount on the back/sides. tl;dr .. get a ISO container, a backhoe, weld in some reinforcements for the roof, waterproof, and backfill with concrete. Will cost more in the neighborhood of $5k .. read any survivalist site for the how-to.

I don't see anything wrong with that pic. The adult day room is dead center of all the rooms. The adult men and women's rooms divide the teens and kids rooms. It is a standard setup. The adults act as a buffer between the two different sexes of kids so the kids wold have to sneak past both adult rooms to get to the other sex's rooms. It's actually a good setup to prevent any hanky panky since all adults would be able to watch everyone.

I can see your point, I propably should have be more clear about myself. The whole sturcture will be under ground, on a soil which is mostly gravel, so the sinking of it etc should not be hugge problem. At the scale of this drawing, those outer walls will be 20cm thick steel reinforced concrete, and those parts that come bit out of the building, will be even lower under ground. Also, the area would have loads of ground water.

Here's a bit updated version.

>> No.372433

>>372355
Tiny bit better but still, 20cm thick steel reinforced concrete is not worth the cost, really really impractical.
There is also the, it will fill with water problem. And the walls still could collapse, what will support it and stop it gradually sinking in the soil causing the concrete to split.
