How hard is it to turn an outdoor bike into a indoor stationary exercise bike? I don't want to do welding.

>> No.357993

Begin with a paddock stand.

>> No.357996

I tried a few winters back. Couldn't figure out how to create resistance without rubbing the rubber smooth.

If you have a spare tire you wouldn't mind losing just raise the rear section of the bike in a way you can peddle and balance on it.

Buy a set of rollers. They will help your fitness and your balance.

they sell these for kinda cheap.. you could go look at one in a bikeshop then build something similar... nuts and bolts

You get a stationary trainer, you put your bike on it, no welding or construction required.

the dude is too stupid to know how to do it himself... telling him to go out and buy one is probably the best advise anyone can give him.

If you get one of this, I'd recommend you to adjust the brakes so they make some contact on the wheel, in order to make some excercise

these are better, they have "built-in" resistance.

just search for "bike trainer" on amazon, there are dozens for every kind of budget.

>> No.358897

the most common method of producing resistance in a stationary bike is to hook the drive up to a fan. this is also good because it blows air on you and you get less sweaty when you work out.

one way would be to extend the back wheel out and up a bit and attach air paddles to it. another would be to get rid of it and hook the chain up to some kind of bladed fan.

I should add: the best way to get a stationary bike is to just get a free one because there are millions of them out there. Somebody spent a lot of money to buy one new, because "hurr durr, I'm gonna start working out and get healthy!!!" And then two weeks later they get bored with it and two years later give it away because they want it the fuck out of their basement. Seriously, OP, come take mine.

>> No.358925

You can make a battery charger/electric maker for your bike. The heavier the electrical load you put on it the more resistance it will be and the harder a workout you'll get. It is actually pretty cool and if you know a bit of electrical work you can add a sliding pot and some resistors to scale up and down the resistance.

Actually, that sounds like a cool project.

I use mine to charge a car battery so it is full resistance that entire time. My quads feel like they will fall off after 30 mins of working out.

That interests me seeing as my car battery is flat. How would I go about doing that?

>>359325
If your battery is dead you need to use a charger for it to get its health back first. An electric generator like what is described in >>358925 is good for trickle charging a battery over the course of a week or so with maybe an hour a day of exercise if your unit outputs at least 30-40 watts. It is a lot of work, but since it is intended to be exercise, that is the trade off.

Basically, just google up "bicycle generator". There's all sorts of youtube, instructables, and DIY stuff about making your own.

You can buy a stationary bike for like $150-200 that can hold up to +300lbs? If you can't afford that, just get a gym membership to Planet Fitness. It's $10 a month. Seriously, there's no excuse to make your own DIY exercise equipment besides being an autistic faggot.
