Snap On is overpriced and tinfoil hat worthy if you go and read even half of the conspiracy threads over on garagajournal.

Buy some damn SK and Klein!

Also Snap On has no business making li-ion battery tools. Thats just fanboy shit.

i doubt SnapOff makes the powered tools; almost certainlt just labelled. they are mostly about their warrenty policy anyway.

i agree, the stuff is grossly overpriced, but them and Mac seem to survive. its pssible that for very busy shops their weekly pop-in, go through your toolbox and replace worn stuff without asking is worth the cost.

>battery-powered drill with big ass battery pack always getting in the way of shit because of how it is designed.

I hate that. The next one I get, I'm hacking off the bottom battery attachment and making a tether for the battery. That way I can get into smaller spaces and drill without it preventing it. I'll probably make it so I can reattach the bottom when I'm done.

Proud owner of one of the drills. Yes it is large.

It is however very powerful and is what I pull out when my DeWalt is having a hard time.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little consumer? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the sales department, and I’ve been involved in numerous late night TV commercials, and I have over 3,000,000 confirmed sales. I am trained in pitching and I’m the top stain specialist in the entire US shopping network. You are nothing to me but just another sale. I will wipe stains the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth thanks to awesome cleaning power of Oxi Clean, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over our phones which are manned 24 hours a day? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my shopping network of spies across the USA and your phone number is being traced right now so you better prepare for the fantastic deals we have in store for you, maggot. You’re fucking saving money right now, talented /diy/er I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can triple this offer in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in stain removal, but I have access to the entire shopping network and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable stains off the top of the kitchen counter. But wait there’s more. If only you could have known what great sales your little phone call was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the new low low price of $19.95.

The Milwaukee's can be put on either direction (facing bacwards)

Most of snap.on is upper-mid grade gear priced 3x too high.

It'd still be in the way. Having a battery pack that you can attach to your belt is better in many of the situations I'm in when drilling remotely.

>Snap On is overpriced and tinfoil hat worthy
Overpriced? Absolutely, but they do make nice tools. Their ratchets seem to have more gears and click much nicer, their box-ends don't cut into your hand when you rip on them, and their product design is quite nice.

But no I wouldn't spend as much as they ask for their stuff, but they do make really nice tools.

This guy >>345495 had the idea.

IMO, Mastercraft or Gray for hard-tools (Or JET if you're outside of Canada), Makita or Milwaukee for electric tools, and IR or Snap-On for Air. Honestly the best air tools for the money really are IR or Snap-On. I like the IR better, it's lighter, hits harder, and has lasted forever; plus they are cheaper than Snap-On.

This is coming from a Heavy Duty mechanic. I work with big shit.

>> No.346604

my milwaukee stuff seems to be decent compared with others I have tried.. lasted longer than my rigid, and I always see dewalts burned up or having gear problems. hilti and makita seems to be decent from what I have seen around job sites.

>> No.346615

DeWalt made great stuff before the recession, but have gone down in quality in recent times. From what I've seen and worked with, Makita is where DeWalt used to be, and Milwaukee is not to far behind. Rigid is on the same tier as Ryobi and Black&Decker.

>> No.346631

Actually Milwaukee hasn't had that reversible battery pack design in years. None of the new M18 li-ion gear has that.

In general, I think most brands of cordless drills have really cheapend in the recession, especially my own fan-boy favorite, DeWalt.

Makita has really made a swinging come back.

DeWalt is just the premium brand of Black & Decker, has been for 60 years.

>> No.346742

Then why are they so bad? I've used them before and never had a good experiance, and neither have any of the contractors I know; it's all just hobbyist stuff.

>> No.346777

>>346742
I've had nothing but good experience with DeWalts at work. (big-name company buys them, maybe they're a special version that's crazy expensive + hard to find?)

They are incredibly tough. Literally shoving the whole thing in dirt and working in the rain with them and they don't give a fuck. Drilling into buried concrete/fiber/resin boxes--dig a trench. Stick drill in as carefully as possible. Dirt invariably falls right into the motor vents. ...It doesn't give a fuck. Continue drilling.

Used 14.4v for 4-6 years until the batteries became totally unusable (We re-celled half of them at one point) and finally upgraded to 18v lithiums which seem to be just as tough with better charging times.

I respect any of my tools that survive the shit I put them through digging ditches. Gerber Freehand made it almost 6 years.

No not DeWalts, I know they're fantastic, my Grandfather's a contractor and only uses DeWalts, all of them have been great tools and lasted his career more or less. I'm talking about Black & Decker for being bad when they are owned by DeWalt.

I still go with Makita for my electric tools however, I've alw3ays had a great experience with them.

Not to an outstanding degree. I've managed to break several Snap-On tools through regular use;. The good thing is the warranty but even that isn't that exceptional anymore, there are plenty of other companies that offer lifetime warranties on their products now.

That being said at our garage pretty much every new tool unless it's specialist is bought off the snap-on truck purely for convenience's sake.

It's the reverse. B&D owns DeWalt.

B&D USED TO BE a serious name in tools. I've used old B&D angle grinders, circ saws and routers that were just as industrial as anything else. Shame.
