Where does /diy/ do their /diy/? So, workstation thread? Yes, mine is more /g/ than /diy/, but I also rebuild carbs, work on turntables, and etc. at this same desk.

Glass top is only slightly less awesome than masonite, but finding a masonite desk that worked for all my needs was neigh on impossible.

Actually I do! I'm a 60's/70's Japanese Motorcycle enthusiast, so I've done a ton of work on Mikunis but mostly their motorcycle lines. The Solex is an auto-racing carb yes?

yeah, I have them on my 2TG engine - they are good "set and forget" carby's but after 40 years mine need reconditioning.
Is it a complicated process? I have a thorough understanding of the physics involved although when I look at an engineers diagram of my carbys my head esplode.

Looks more complicated than the 4 wheeled equivalent, probably a space/weight issue.

Do you know a good place to get new jets or reconditioning kits for Mikuni?

Nice bike btw, old school looks so much better than modern

>> No.305448

>>305447

Mikuni itself is still very much around, should be easy to source parts direct... And TBH, I get all my rebuild kits from e-bay.

And yea, complicated carbs on a complicated bike, it's a 350cc SOHC 4 cylinder, in 1973. Still one of the smallest production 4c bikes ever. Runs like a sewing machine though, very smooth and quiet.

Holee fuck that's hot.

That seat reupholstered? Looks to be in too good shape.

Personally:
>remove shock chrome guards
>repaint brake caliper
>remove sticker or remove chainguard all together
>new grips
>remove side reflector off fork
>polish that transmission casing, at least clean up the honda badge/circle
>chrome pegs with new rubber
>clean/polish those lower forks
>case/bracket for that lisence
>new front tire(hard to tell from picture but looks pretty worn)
>front blinkers look titled up?
>set of black crash guards. Terribly good investment

Hard to find vintage smaller bikes(<550) around here. Damn shame.

No clue, it was a gift... You could buy a plastic clock, a heat gun, and try your hand at it using a standard battery driven clock mechanism, and then cut/letter the face after you get the desired shape...

Oh beautiful, somebody else that appreciates quality audio equipment.

This is my most recent development. Beautiful condition Dynaco Stereo 120 with preamp and tuner. Possibly my favorite equipment I've ever owned. I have a Marantz 2215 as a bookshelf system and a Yamaha setup for my theater. So rarely do you see younger people interested in such things anymore. I got it from my father who used to repair and flip "vintage" hifi.

Not OP, but the best time to buy is the end of the season. It snows where I'm from, and now is the time of year everybody dumps their bikes. The beginning of the season is when the prices are inflated. It might vary in your area depending on the weather. Motorcycle graveyards are a good spot to find a used bike, they usually have a few kicking around they fixed up to sell.

Buy on ebay and get it shipped to where you are. Or get a friend with a pickup to go somwhere else to buy one. Here in Minnesota, the biking season has ended and lower-end/old motorcycles will sell for $600 at this time of year.

When buying a used bike, your best bet is getting lucky.

Have an idea of what you want. Do your research.

Fucking stalk Kijiji/Craigslist. Also buy your local magazine that lists used vehicles/cars.

Having a parts bike is always good too.

Chances are, if it's a well made vintage bike, it has a good forum online.

>>306026
>end of season

For several reasons. Obviously not being able to ride but also
>money for becoming unemployed due to winter
>money for Christmas
>having no place to store
>easier to sell a bike that runs, rather than one that's been sitting all winter and won't

etc

Yeah those bars were ass, I don't know what I was thinking. I got some different ones on there now with a better pullback. My riding buddies nicknamed those the "pee wee herman bars." The tank isn't so bad now that the color matches the side covers. Wish I had an updated picture but she's in storage now. Nice interceptor btw, always liked that style.
