I'll soon graduate on computer enginnering and I have a lot of interest on microcontrollers. Been working with an agilent oscilloscope and loving its usefulness.

Has anybody used this USB oscilloscope? Is it good for a starter kit?

You can get an old Tek 453 for under $50 on craigslist.

I live on a third world country, so I'll need to import. Shipping fees are huge, so I'm looking for lighter ones.

Damn. Well, I can't really help much then. I hope you find something that meets your needs in your price range.

i got a PPS10 for a hundred bucks. it only has one probe though, i dont know how much you can do with that but its 10Mhz and has USB cable.

Also, check out electronic surplus stores in your neighborhood. Alot of them are going out of business and need your support. I went to one recently and they had literally hundreds of old oscopes/test equipment for <$50.

I wouldn't bother buying a scope until you know you'll actually need it.

If you do end up needing one, take a look at the Rigol DS1052E, or hunt around for electronics surplus as others suggested if possible.

I would like a scope with 2 channels, 'cause they are damn handy.

There are some super cheap USB scopes on ebay for 25 dollars, but they probe at 3KHz max.

I need to find someone with a DSO-2090 to see if it's even slightly good...

Yes, RIGOL ones seems nice but they are priced 350 dollars on dealextreme. I'm willing to sacrifice the display and a bit on quality for half the price and get the USB based.

Do you think it's a good tradeoff?

Do you really want to be working with this interface?

Seems shitty... Maybe I should just buy a RIGOL then?

>> No.30071

Again: don't buy it until you need it. You'll rarely need it for simple projects, so wait until you have a project complex enough to justify the cost.

>> No.30096

get a rigol ds1052e. I have one and its great. The USB scopes are cheep pieces of crap for the hobbiest market. The rigol scopes are almost to the level where they would be used professionally.

they are learning tools too, if you say wait until you have a project he may never get it, because he never got one to learn with.

best 400 dollars evar.

Exactly. There where tons of situations that a scope would solve my problems.

We could always use a scope to learn more about our work.
