Hey /diy/,

These two black kids are breaking into condos around my area. Yesterday at around noon, they broke into my neighbor's back sliding door. I didn't hear any noises, so they aren't doing it by force. The backdoor only has a latch, not a lock.

How do I secure my backdoor so it's not broken into?

those doors are really crappy for security. easy to open when they are locked or just throw a brick through...

Can you put anything in the track to block the door from sliding open? like a pvc pipe or some wood?

My brother's is installed upside down so the bearings can't handle the weight of the door, but at least the track is on the right side. That's pretty effed up. You could make a custom charlie bar out of wood that fits in anyway. Just two long pieces of wood glued together.

This is a construction defect. The builder should be held responsible for repairs.

You should be able to fix this yourself if you are reasonably handy. Most doors are designed to be installed either way. You might have to dissemble the door frame and swap the sides, but that is not difficult if you are careful.
Can you take some pics of your door, and the track and how the stationary panel is secured? Where are you? Is the glass in the door tempered?

Is the weatherstrip attached to the stationary panel or the slider? There appears to be an insert in the threshplate. Is that removable? What country are you in and how old is the door?

you should just get a door chain and attach it to the door frame and bigger rig it to the door handle or screw in the slide latch to the door. take the slack out of the chain with a nail that you can hang it on and easily remove from the inside.

or you could do a similar fix with a buckle latch.

you should try to switch the doors so they are right though. a bar on the door slide is probably the best. make sure its tight and reinforced somehow though so it can't be fished out through the door with a coat hanger.

honestly, if you just make it more difficult to get into than everyone else's the niggers will give up fairly easily, and move on to someone else's that is more accessible.

also get a medium /large breed dog. niggers hate dogs.

Remove those 4 screws and that threshplate trim. There should be a track under it just like the one the door runs on.

If you can't find a replacement for your pin lock or fix it you can always replace it with a pin lock made from some stuff from the hardware store. It will take a slight bit more work to lock/unlock it (screwing/unscrewing the hexbolt) but it will serve the same purpose. Pic related.

If you want to have the door opening properly then >>295825 is correct.

if its a sliding door get a cheap locking bar, works great
