Hey /diy/ers. I recently got a load of tobacco leaves from a friend of mine. Do any of you have any experience with drying/fermenting/flavoring/preparing the leaves? Preferably doable indoors without build a curing chamber/kiln.

Don't bother OP, I tried once but the end result was me not realising how much time is involved, doing a half ass job and creating a smoke that made me quit smoking.

He's right. Tobacco is a drug. If you can't handle that, then I'm afraid life will be tough.

I've done this. Drying/curing the leaves to get a product with the right characteristics and not a bag of dry leaf requires a bit of attention. There's info out there on curing tobacco; what I remember seeing was usually talking about large scale processes. I experimented a bit with small amounts. My conclusion was that what you're aiming for is to allow the leaves to lose moisture without either drying out too much, or molding. I was able to get reasonable results. You may be able to repurpose some 420 info. Just start experimenting.

also, pay attention to the leaves and their orgin on the plant. The leaves from my plants that I focused on were the smaller, newer growth. They were quite sticky; I think that they're the ones that you'd typically want. Although, hey, whatever you fancy really.

Go tell that to the dozens of homebrewing threads. Loosen up a bit, will you?

That's embarrassing making tobacco so bad you never smoked again. Problem is I'll smoke anything.

Allright then. Thanks for the tips. Teh bigger leaves have already turned yellow while the small ones are still greenish so i suppose it's going in the right dirrection. I also have cut out the center vein, to save so hassle later on. Also is drying stacked leaves with preasure applied on them a bad idea? Since i dont have the space to lay all of them out. And do you have any tips on the fermentation part?
I'll try to keep the thread updated with pics of progress, if i have any.
