Cobras are good pliers, but they are not the best water pump pliers knipex makes, just the most expensive ones.
So if you see someone with cobras 9 out of 10 times it's because they saw some social media sojack promoting them.

This. I dunno why everyone spergs out about pliers so much... The knipex cobras are pretty good. Got myself some of the pliers wrenches and they are pretty good. Got some Malco eagle grips, they are nice. None of it is really as life altering as you all claim it is though...

Snap-on tools are nice. I have some. Not going to throw out all my other tools and replace everything that is working perfectly fine just because some name-faggot on a diy board said so though.

TLDR, anyone who shills stuff this hard and namefags is a do-nothing faggot.

Oh yeah. It's my go to for drilling and covers most use cases. Bonus is if I break one I honestly don't give a flying fuck. Into the trash it goes and I grab another one out. Zero fucks given.

If it is something that needs a precise hole of a specific size then then I grab a proper bit. I buy 1/8 and 1/4" cobalt bits in bulk for pilot drilling. For general fab, step bits get used quite often to open the holes up to final size.

Everything you said is less than true. You can’t easily buy those Cat pliers unless you’re already buying stuff through a diesel shop. It will probably end up being more than $40 based on the rest of the bullshit in this post because diesel shops will charge Grainger prices to your company’s account.

Also the Knipex is easily available on Amazon or other retailers and is about $30-$35.

Also you’re not going to warranty those “$30” CAT pliers like you can exchange stuff on the rape van with the $70 pliers. Is your diesel parts supply house going to fight with CAT to get you a new pair of pliers when the guy standing behind you is trying to buy $7k worth of parts? So what’s the point of that bullshit argument?

Yea, grab a set of the CAT sockets for cheap if you ever get a chance. Or just go buy Williams on Amazon, warranties will be easier.

Apparently SOME Cat dealers will just sell them to you over the counter, but it's definitely not standard. They're also not listed on Cat's site anymore and you have to go through the catalog and figure out the part numbers and have the dealer order them. I did find one dealer that does have an online catalog that looks like you can just order them, though, and they're really well-priced, but I'm not sure if you'll hit a roadblock where you need a business account with them or something if you actually try to do it, or whether they'll ship.

I happened to go to IKEA the other day, which was the same day that my first ever pair of Knipex showed up. Why does nobody ever point out that they both use the same font on their stuff?

Anyway I like the Cobras and think they're worth every penny of the $37 I paid for them on Amazon but they're definitely not the forged in valhalla shit people make them out to be, yeah they're way nicer than a $20 pair of Channelocks but they're still mostly unfinished castings and have way more slop in them than I expected. Also it bothers me that the grip material stops so low on the one handle, unless you've got the jaws almost maxed out you've got a finger or two on bare metal instead of the rubbery stuff.

all ratcheting ones are automatic. then they are in your price range. Just make sure whatever you buy can handle the cross sections you want to crimp

unironically baby duck syndrome, but after well over a million ferrules i know what i treasure in a tool.
imo front insertion is the better tool layout, especially with double ferrules it is easier to give the wires a needed push, but sometimes rotating comes in handy. now the knipex/rennsteig/würth front insertion one is humongously large

I'm talking about a specific brand within a style, not. I imagine cobras are nice but compared to a channellock it isn't a massive deal. Shit visegrips versus actual peterson's are a big difference, especially since it's a tool of last resort in certain applications.
What attachment would that be? I could make one but I'd rather spend $20 on a chinkshit one if I could.

This looks like one of the pics from a 5-star review for that Wera driver handle.

Every single one of these Altoid tin-loving EDC fanny pack pics, not a single bit or socket shows any sign of ever touching the fastener.

You are on the wrong website sir. It is spelled R-E-D-D-I-T. Out in the real world when somebody has an EDC, it’s shit they carry daily, and it gets used daily or they wouldn’t waste the pocket space to carry it.

Pic related, muh EDC knoife that gets used to cut up a box any time it’s needed because it’s on my belt every day. It is not an unused designer knoife that only gets used when a new knife thread on Reddit pops up.

Yes, I literally do. If I know beforehand that I'm gonna be doing a ton of boxes or whatever then yeah, I'll grab a box cutter or my Mora, but if my Seb is in my pocket and there isn't anything else handy then I don't shy away from using it. As usual, you have no idea what you're talking about. It's two slabs of titanium, a relatively soft (i.e. tough) blade, and a chunky framelock. It's hard to come up with a more durable folding knife design. CRK also has an amazing warranty, they've even replaced knives people have broken on purpose before, and they're one of the only knife companies that actually encourages owners to maintain their own knives and even includes tools and lube in the box, unlike Benchmade who'll void your shit for taking your knife apart to clean it.

Scan tools are such a retarded topic too because the best bet is a cable with a laptop and pirated software if you don’t spend $$$$ on something with a subscription. I paid $40-$50 for the Zurich years back that didn’t even show live data, that means it pretty much just reads the Pxxxx codes. And IIRC, it might not have even done that on a certain make of car. My $20 Veepeak bluetooth dongle is far better than that, and it’s on iOS which has fewer apps than Android and Windows I believe. It all varies a lot by car make/model too though. My $120 Autel will give me body codes on most cars. $20 Veepeak will do live data on pretty much everything with a $10 app, however there is a really good iOS app for Chrysler vehicles and I can get like $500+ scan tool function on Jeeps from my phone.

The model i bought shows live data, although I've never needed live data for diagnosis in the past. I'm an amateur when it comes to diagnosis (and I'd put 99% of DIY mechanics, and many "profesional mechanics" into this category).
>body codes
I have the wireless version of picrel for Fords. With Forscan you can do everything. It's pretty kewl.

>> No.2852617

You will want live data eventually. It was literally like the 2nd or 3rd time I pulled out the Zurich, I realized I needed something better because I wanted live coolant temp sensor readings and the best I could get was a freeze frame from whenever a code was triggered.

Maybe you will get your money’s worth, but I won’t buy another <$200 standalone scan tool. There’s too many other sensors and a lot of the Uxxxx codes have been popping up for me in recent years. Cars are too complicated these days, have fun with the dash lights when you don’t know a wheel speed sensor has failed.

if you understand the communication protocol you can get absolutely everything you need from a 5$ chinese clone ELM scan tool.
for example apropos of nothing, to read coolant temp you just need to know the default ecu address, the code for live data is pid service 01, the code for coolant temp is x67. you tell your scan tool that info and it will go get it for you. could not be more simple.
unfortunately scan tools are complicated by dogshit software which obfuscates everything and makes it more complicated. all you need is a serial terminal and a basic understanding of manipulating binary data.
OBD2 is mandated meaning anything to do with engine efficiency can be read by any tool. its mandated.
But you can also read from any computer on the car with the same tool. It has to be a good clone, for example some of them will pretend to accept address but keep the default ECU address.
And you have to know the protocol for each module you want to talk to, which is where software makes its money.
But for anyone who understands anything about reverse engineering embedded systems, you do not need to pay more than a few bucks for a scan tool. I have reprogrammed second hand alarm fobs to my car with a 5$ tool and a 5$ logic analyzer from amazon, as far as the internet is concerned its impossible unless you pay a dealer for new fobs.
Me? i mostly use the dealer software, because it does a full health check of all the computers, makes a list of issues and probable causes, and then walks you through the diagnostic and repair. very comfy.
