Well, I've heard of people giving themselves stitches when they were unable to get to a doctor. So I would think simple things like that you could do. Anything more that you really don't have the training or education for will be an absolute disaster. There are SO SO SO many things that could go wrong. You don't have the proper tools let alone sterilization. You're gonna give yourself a nasty infection or gangrene.

Actually, while we're on this (ostensibly silly) subject:
I've got a hematoma the size of a flattened-out tennis ball on my hip from a cycling accident that may need to be drained in the near future if it doesn't drain on it's own. Anybody ever done this? I've had to have it done once before for a hematoma on my leg, and it seems like a simple procedure, assuming I can get my hands on some injectible lidocaine and sterile syringes/needles and scalpel..

>> No.283166

>>283104
I've actually been planning to insert neodymium magnets into at least one finger tip (inspired by lepht anonym). I have all the materials, and even went the extra mile and got lidocaine solution from a veterinary supply (I initially was just going to use ice + drugs and have a friend do the operation). Now I just need to learn proper local anesthesia procedure and pick up syringes, and I am good to go.

I worked with a guy who used to be a lumberjack and he cut himself pretty badly (cut about an inch down into his arm and 4 inches along) out in the middle of forest, literally miles from medical help.
They (him and a partner) washed the cut out with vodka and superglued it shut and then wrapped a shirt sleeve around his arm.
With that they were able to stop the bleeding and everything until the emergency guys got out to him (the next morning).

nononono do not try to medicate yourself unless you know what you are doing. If you want to attempt to drain it, I am all for that, just make sure you clean the area well (Iodine swabs are medically preferred, but alcohol can work too) And make sure you are using a clean needle if you must. Any knife can be used instead of going through the trouble of getting a scalpel, but its gonna hurt. In my opinion, as an EMT who sees this shit all the time, and does this shit to myself all the time, i would go get yours looked at by a doc. If its that big and thick as you describe, you can pose some serious risk of infection.

Neodymium magnets are so strong that they will attract the iron in your blood, eventually leading to a blood clot. Seriously, don't do this. The same effect could be seen if you strapped a very powerful magnet to the underside of your wrist for a couple weeks or so. Again, don't ever fucking do this, you'll get a blood clot.

Ignore the bullshit conspiracy theory crap in the following video. The reason the piece of cereal follows the magnet around is because the magnet so strong, that it's attracting the iron in the cereal.

Simple things like sutures (or skin staples) for deep wounds or incision and drainage of an abscess are relatively safe... Superglue works very well as a suture material.

There isn't much else I'd try outside of a hospital unless forced to do so... I've heard of chest tubes being inserted with wire coat-hangers and catheters and tracheotomies done with ball-point pens (although a large gauge fenestrated needle would be better). But those procedures are relatively straight forward and do not require and major "cut down" or opening of body cavities.

The risk for infection is extremely high...

>> No.283740

>>283707
Risk of infection is certain for suture, skin staples, deep wounds, incision, and drainage of abscess. You need to flush with iodine and take antibacterial medicine even to treat those relatively minor wounds. If you do not you are going medieval and betting that your body can beat the infection. Protip: There is a huge chance it will not, and you will either die or end up in the hospital where they amputate a limb or two.

You're a hippy cartoon character who thinks saving human life is an "abuse" of antibiotics. I have a medical certification and a scope and I understand the concept of antibacterial abuse, and you have none of these things. Force-feeding millions of healthy cows causes antibacterial resistance. Turning the homeless out on the street before their TB is cured causes antibacterial resistance. Millions of people living in close proximity with little sanitation as in India causes antibacterial resistance. Antibacterial soaps used daily by healthy people causes antibacterial resistance. Applying neosporin to a cut does not cause antibacterial resistance. Taking antibacterials when you have a bacterial infection does not cause antibacterial resistance, it saves your fucking life.

>I made an argument
You presented a list of facts, actually very irrelevant in this case - and you proceeded to use several posts repeating your ignorant ad hominem.
