Hey guys/gals

I finished making this bow the other day and I was just wondering if anyone has some personal tips on how to make amazing arrows.
I know dowel are great but some wood worksman input would be awesome

all answer are welcome (apart from trolls)

Ill dump some photos but I started with a 2 metre long Oak cut out.
Cut off one end and glued it to the middle for a handle. and sanded it down to round the grip. then i started carving out from the middle and making the flew in the limbs. It was mostly improvised but i got alot of information from youtube and google.

ill dump now

Just a knife and hammer. Took me a week to fully finish. I still need to sand it, haha.

Ive made an arrow shelf now also.

Nice!

If you know your draw length and draw force, you can make a pretty good guess at the arrow spine that you need.

Dowels work, but they will vary a lot in weight. My first arrows were made of lodgepole pine. POC (port orford cedar) is probably the most popular. Both will run you about $35/dozen for just the shafts. They also break fairly easy. Heavier woods like birch and hickory will break less, but might be too heavily spined for your bow.

Let me see if I can dig up an old picture of my first set of arrows. I stained the crown and used model paint to crest over the stain transition line.

However you make your arrow, be sure to apply some contact explosive to the business end of it. Re-enact that scene from Rambo.

Just buy some CF shafts of the right spine and build your arrows from them. Wood is nice but trying to make new ones with same characteristics each time is going to be a pain in the ass and not worth it for how often you loose arrows.

Most traditional archers at my field use random arrows that were cheap or they found since they're shooting at only 20 meters any ways.

Are you... me? I'm just starting a bow project, from red oak. However, I'm harvesting the wood from a local forest. Why did you choose to use processed wood? Is there a guide referring to it's use?
