What are you securing in to?
How heavy is the thing you’re hanging?

You read the package where it says what the rated load is and decide based on that.

If you're hanging a heavy mirror or installing shelves or a microwave or something, then yeah you should probably spend extra on some really heavy-duty ones.

But realistically, you should find a stud for something heavy anyway.

For anything else, get the plastic ones, hang your picture frame or whatever, and go about your day.

Experience helps a lot. Since you appear to be lacking that, use your judgement and select something that seems a bit more than you need. Read about the item you want to use and the material it will go into.

If you fail too many times maybe /diy/ is not for you, but some failure with this sort of product is not unexpected, especially in sheetrock. Not pictured, but one of the most failsafe anchors in sheetrock is pic related, but not for overhead - a screw or bolt into a ceiling joist would be the ideal way to support a heavy item above you.

that's called a spring toggle where i am from. used many of them, would recommend.
>>2659760
chose none, choose wood. pic rel is a good readily available source to most people. if you are drilling into brick or solid walls, for most normal wood screws, drill a hole about 10mm wide, cut a wooden dowel about that size, slightly tapered, and hammer it in. it needs to be tight. now screw into the wood.

You thrown out the Anchoryball and shout: I CHOOSE YOU, TOGGLEBOLT!
And then it makes some irritatingly cute noise like "ToGgLe ToGgLe!"
And then you listen to the woman with long hair and her brother talk about how much cooler they are on Team Robertson.
And a little Mexican says, "Si, señor. Days right!"

For drywall though, if you’re trying to hang anything more than a picture frame but not full cabinet hanging with metal toggles, I have become a fan of pic related.

That’s why I said for your needs in between full size toggle and the shitty plastic anchors. Regular toggle bolts have their place when you need to hang real heavy stuff. But I have been doing a lot of those 1lb-10lb deals and been totally pissed off with stuff like pic related because at least 1/3 of them don’t feel totally secure. But the mini toggles are working super great for the shelves with decorative knick knacks and towel rack and all that. Regular anchor pulls out of the towel rack with come use, full toggle bolt is way overkill, but pop toggles are just right.

All the little plastic shits are basically the same

The big cork screw ones are for housewives without a drill or an awl.

Toggle bolts are meh, kinda old technology, >>2659851 are strictly superior.

The metal expanding ones are nice if you need something with a still small screw hole but you want more bite than the plastic shits.

The big ones are all for big shit in concrete and aren't really comparable to drywall anchors.

Other benefit of toggle bolts: can mount to metal studs. Drill through, it swings. Hard to get stronger.

also i used a dead motor drill and screw driver... but now my good drill is working again

What's the correct anchor for drilling into corrugated cardboard covered with a thin veneer like Ikea uses. Not the particle board dividers, the frame front.

>> No.2661910

Probably
>>2659772
It's the only one that would activate on such a thin surface. It wouldn't hold very well and might not deploy in such a small space as inside the hole.

You might want to get chemical anchor stuff that goes with some of the heavy duty masonry bolts. Poke a hole and fill that one cardboard node and then anchor into it like normal.

To hang the whole thing on the wall? I really wouldn’t attempt to hang the thing by that crappy cardboard backing held on with trim nails, it’s going to tear through right way.

Get some little L-brackets or something and attach them to a solid part of the unit, maybe like 2 on the bottom under the unit, two near the top of the drawers on the bottom, and two behind the books in that pic.

My photo choice wasn't good as I don't want to hang it on the wall but you have good advice that's hopefully useful to someone else. I just want to hang stretched canvases on the front of the thing, so not anything really heavy, just the weight of the stretcher bars.

Can't easily find molly bolts anymore. I don't know why the box stores stopped stocking them but have a million of the shit plastic ones that don't work.

But yeah, most things I need an anchor for I want to be able to remove the bolt. I switched to snap toggles, works well just expensive and needs a big hole.
