ah, one of swiss superbunkers. I heard that they are selling some out of commision ones. Never thought they are this cheap.
But it is not nuke proof. There was a reason they started covering walls with concrete everywhere after ~1975. Bunker buster bombs can demolish bare rock tunnels. But still, for data center, it's good. One hell of security. But beware of humidity, looks like lowest level started forming stalactites. You better cover it with few coats of spray on concrete or something.

It´s in a granite mountain.

"To penetrate granite—ubiquitous in mountainous bunkers, and believed to be common above any truly valuable bunker—a penetrator would have to attain upward of 3,000 meters per second, at which speed it would certainly be crushed. Robert Nelson of Princeton University has demonstrated that because of the limitations imposed by the yield strength of the steel used in casings, no bunker buster can ever go fast enough to penetrate reinforced concrete deeper than five times its length without destroying itself in the process; and even this number is too high for any real-world scenario. What is more, the length of the bomb cannot be increased much, for two reasons: there are no aircraft capable of carrying a weapon much longer than the ones that are currently deployed; and as length increases, so does the tendency of the bomb to snap in two on impact."

So I guess I´d be safe when you come bombing the file sharing servers ;)

Already done, its at 60 becquerel due to natural wind ventilation in the tunnels. The cold and hot air mixing creates a breeze which runs throughout. The complex stays at 10c all year around (if you don't use heating). The hot air carrying all the moisture mixing with the cold air at the inner levels are whats creating all the humidity (100% at some levels). Gonna create another thread later on to deal with that.

So OP, what are your plans for it? Pirate's paradise? Underground rave haven? Meth factory? Massive weed growing operation? Dream home?

Is it hooked up to the power grid or is it being run on generators? Are you going to live here? Does it have running water, gas, sewage, etc hooked up? Are you going to do the work yourself or get contractors to do the work? How much have you estimated it's going to cost to get it up and running how you want it? How big is it, like in square-feet? Is this a personal project of yours or do you have a partner or small group funding this? What kind of environment is it located in? Is it on the side of a mountain? In the middle of a forest? Does it have good access or do you have to hike to reach it?

I'm amazed these properties haven't been snatched up yet. So many amazing and profitable things you could do with such a property.

Hooked up to two separate power grids. Has a diesel generator room (but no generators yet). Can feed the diesel tanks from topside through fueling pipes.

Tap water from wells, has its own sewage plant (haven´t figured out the plant yet, have to call in some contractors to check it out). Supposed to be a three step biological, chemical and mechanical plant.

Have done the most things DIY, but heavy work like with hydraulic machinery I leave to the pros. This is located out in nowhere, if I get hurt the animals will get to me before any human will.

No idea, taking it as it comes. I´ve been lucky in life so I do have some funds.

I´d estimate it around 50k sq feet not including tunnels.

Me and two friends.

Located very rurally, there's a large paved road that goes by it which the army used for trucks. If you don´t know the location of the bunker its impossible to see from the road. If you traveled out here you would just be thinking the road quality is excellent out here ;)

Located in granite mountain, most entrances are above 100m sea level.

We'd never need anything more than an email address. You could easily set one up and forward all mail that contained a specific keyword - or a shared PGP key - in the email's subject to your proper email address which we'd never know.

Hell, even set up a string of fakes and make any script kiddie on a mission to out you have to work for it (pic related).

You can only get so far with a bright and shiny facade to make it not seem like it's under ground, but there will always be that fact that it's a little under ground.

That said, under ground is a pretty shitty place to put a hotel, much less a "classy" one. Besides, compartmentalizing the bunker into a large series of small living spaces will detract from the thing being a badass gigantic bunker. Just for future reference, showing evidence to support your claim isn't building up a strawman. If he were to show you an underground shithole, he would be showing that an underground area can be shitty. That is the argument you seem to be making.

On a more related note. Making it a classy hotel wouldn't work to bring in your typical person who goes to expensive hotels. He is very correct about that. However, I think you could set up a type of hotel, but you'd have to cater to the type of people who would want to stay in a bunker.

A friend's cool basement is one thing. It's a minimal purpose room attached to a house. A lower level club or lounge is one thing too. These types of places beg to be dark and don't require windows and only really need to be a large open space. I have been to both types of places many times. A "classy" hotel - which I'm assuming means 4 or 5 star to you - is a completely different story. Someone looking for a classy hotel is usually looking for something with a view, an outdoor pool, and maybe a few other outdoor amenities, and not so much something as claustrophobia inducing as walking a few hundred yards underground.

I never said an underground structure couldn't look nice nor be comfortable at the same time. But there is just so much you can do with what you have available before it becomes completely impractical and totally unrealistic. Trying to create a four or five star hotel in an underground bunker is not only unrealistic, but utterly impractical. I imagine the cost of installing and maintaining utilities and amenities would be exponentially greater than normal. I think the other anon that replied to you hit it right on the head and explained it better than I could.

And yes, I know that posting pictures of a bunch of shitty looking basements would be useless.

consider a dirt cheap solar panel array spaced around the topside of your facility.
you can get the really REALLY cheap panels for about $0.90 a peak watt, which is fantastic, you can run a modern american home on about 3,000 worth of panels and equipment.

splurge for about $6000 and you could run all the lights in the entire place 24/7

ultra bonus points if you get some cheap motion sensors with relays attached to the power in each room, so the lights turn on as you wander around the facility, uses a ton less juice

and as someone else said
RENT IT OUT FOR PARTIES OR RAVES, YOU'D MAKE A FORTUNE

Throwing in my two cents, because it's 4chan and why the hell not.

OP is probably nuke-proof, depending on how isolated his bunker is from the nearest populated area. The idea of the nuclear-powered governments of the world throwing nuclear weapons at each other in a nuclear war is outdated. It might have been a real concern in the 1960s, when this bunker was supposedly built, but these days, it's almost certainly not going to happen. There are a few rogue countries like North Korea and Iran who might be batcrazy enough to throw nukes at someone, but in those particular cases, Iran would nuke Israel and Korea would probably nuke Japan. After exhausting their limited nuclear arsenal on a country that isn't OP's country, they would get spanked by almost the entire world in retaliation, since using nukes is EXTREMELY frowned upon. To be continued...

>> No.265846

>>265845
There are, however, concerns to OP's bunker by weapon attacks, nuclear and otherwise. Even though I have already argued that government sponsored nuclear attacks are almost certainly not going to target OP, or even the nearest population center to OP, it is a genuine concern these days that terrorist/extremist organizations could get and use a conventional or improvised nuclear device. If that were the case, such an organization would probably have very few such devices, since enriched uranium is quite rare. I imagine that OP's batcave is a pretty low priority target for the kind of extremist who likes to smash airplanes into the most populated cities in the world.

In the 1960s, remote-guided thermobaric weapons probably didn't exist as we know them today. OP's bunker could possibly be targeted by such a weapon, which are used in modern times to specifically target caves (and the living things in the caves). I don't know the specifics of OP's bunker to know if it has taken defense against such weapons into its design.

In conclusion, if a government-sponsored military were to have a reason to attack OP's bunker, they would certainly succeed. Against a nuclear weapon, though, OP can sleep sound at night, knowing his new home offers significant protection against the blast. I don't know enough about fallout to say if he would survive, though...

The government does not sell bunkers it still thinks are useful. They generally hang on to shit until well after its useful and quite out of date before getting it and getting rid of it. Also, don't doubt that they have more then enough active and well maintained bunkers to stay in, plus a mothballed fleet of older bunkers that can be brought up to snuff without much hassle. I successfully opened the closed hatch from >>267933 I´ll post a pic later (only got my phones camera). Also would like some input on my idea of turning some anti blast wave valves into small dehumidifiers, will post pic and blue print later as well. I´m on a really crappy mobile connection.

First air intake, 17 blast wave valves. Quite heavy, 54.5 cm diameter. I was thinking of fitting these with fans + making round radiator/evaporators and pumping cold water (8-9c) from the wells. This I hope should work as dehumidifiers cooling the warm humid air. The excess water from the air would be pumped out by a drainage pump behind the blast wave valve wall. Sadly I can't post the blue print of the wall+tunnel behind due to not being able to reach my computer at home.

Spray it with borax (sodium tetraborate), they have concentrate that comes in granules or liquid form, under varying brands. Safe, cheap, and will protect your wood after it's done killing what's on it. Protects against all fungi and insects.

Bleach will kill the active fungus and bleach the stains left by it, but will not kill the spores or prevent it from coming back. Bleach is not a good solution for dealing with mold.

Yes, the main entrance is an airlock, max 20 people at a time according to the warning sign on it. Doors are solid metal, I'm guessing maybe 50cm thick, 3m x3m wide/height. They took out the hydraulic machinery that worked it, so I'm opening these manually, really really heavy.

Just saw the pic you originally posted; that wood will probably need to go, but borax will still work for what you're doing. If you're just going to be spraying down areas near that or areas you think might be susceptible to mold I would go with a really light solution. You would only need to go with a heavier solution to treat wood with.

"Borax" isn't a brand, it's just a common chemical name like "ammonia." I'm sure they'll have it in one form or another wherever you are. You'll want to apply it in a pump sprayer.

I haven't had any experience killing with ozone, mostly because of it's deleterious effects in enclosed spaces (I mostly work in residential or other continuously occupied buildings.) I have used UV-C equipped HVAC systems and standalone filters successfully, though, if that helps.

The biggest thing will be just getting rid of the moist conditions and materials that the mold live on (which you're already doing) since trying to kill all the mold spores (and prevent new ones from making their way in) is going to be a bit like shoveling against the tide. I wouldn't worry about trying to kill the airborne spores unless they're in sufficient concentration to be worrisome or you or someone else is affected by them. Ozone would probably be worth a shot in the worst areas, just make sure to turn them off and allow the ozone enough time to deplete before you expose yourself to it. I would probably run them in the particularly bad areas after you're done removing the wood it's currently on.

If you have other wood in areas that are moist or mold prone, in addition to borax you might look at an epoxy resin product. They impregnate the wood with epoxy so it becomes completely fungus/insect resistant and waterproof; some of the pricier ones will even repair some structural damage. If you have some wood that isn't in bad shape and would be a pain to remove this might be an option to save you some work and replacement cost.
