Is framing a good career to get into or does it just destroy your body and pay little?

Most places stick to union pay scale (mostly because of building codes and the permitting process), which caps you as part of a crew.
25 bucks an hour is only 50k/yr.
But everyone has to start somewhere. There was a time in my life when that would have seemed like a lot of money, so I get it.
The point is to get to where you're running the crew, and then to the one who's got crews out doing the work while you bid jobs and line up more work. That's where the money is.

It's easy and a relatively low impact trade but because of this, the pay will always be low

Become an electrician, plumber or HVAC guy instead

Carpentry pays poorly and its not that hard.

Only the lead guy makes any money and I'm not sure how much that even is. They have a lot of extra headaches like roof layout, meeting all the code demands, making the final look like the picture when print has contradictions, managing tools and crew.
Rough carpentry is fun and it's good to get some experience if you want to follow down carpentry or into building. There's definitely more math and physicality involved than finish carpentry. Post and timber framing should fetch higher rates. It's still a pretty jank career path unless you get into a commercial field and hot location. Carpentry in general is pretty shit unless you specialize and produce. The other union skilled trades naturally progress well without having the monkey on your back to carve out your own business.

all of the mechanical will get paid more. most carpenters tend to funnel into becoming general contractors. This is because framers tend to be there first and control the rate at which the building progresses.

general contractors commonly also are:

>carpenters (stick frame)
>sheet metal workers ("carpenters")
>concrete workers
>roofers (comes with carpentry/finishing)
>painters
>floor and tile
>cabinetry
>finishers

it is by no coincidence all you need is a building license to do most of these. with the mechanical, pending your contracting you need both a building license and a mechanical license.

if you want to be the ultimate DIY you need:

>Electrical license
>HVAC license
>Plumbing license
>Utility/Underground license
>Low voltage (telecom) license
>General Contractor (unlimited) license
>CDL class C license (hazmat transport)
>Professional engineer license (surveying and drafting)
>Business license (formal)
>Federal Explosive license (explosives handling)
>hazmat handling certification (is actually a license)

while not explicitly necessary I also recommend:
>FFL form 9,10,11 (explosives, machine-guns, AOW, and DDs)
>Armed Security Guard license
(allows you to use a gun for reasons other than self-defense)
>a degree in business management, preferably in project management.

certifications that are welcome but 100% not necessary legally:
>wielding
>underwater wielding
>carpentry
>cement worker
>tile and flooring

some other licenses that occured to me:

>pilots license for Drones
very useful for taking pictures of buildings. and site work. not necessary as long as you want to limit yourself to a ceiling of 300 ft.

Or accept the low pay but keep your body intact

Shows the picture, buddy. Being an operator at pretty much any semi-automated manufacturing plant pays every bit as much as a carpenter gets, but your body won't die out nearly as fast. Until pay matches the toll it takes on your body, nobody will be attracted to it.
