I've done elevated hvac platforms on a number of jobs. Mostly because coastal area requires mechanical equipment to be a certain height above grade/floor elevation, but sometimes just because the customer didn't want to give up valuable yard area for it.

That's, at best, like 2000 watts of solar. Once you account for the massive loss in range from towing something so heavy, I seriously doubt they're generating more than a few extra miles of range on a bright sunny day.

Though it could make a lot of sense if they were constantly driving to off-grid locations like mountain cabins or something where you can park and recharge over the span of 3-4 days before making a return trip.
