Redpill me on Stoves. Where and how can I get a good stove for my house in northern continental Europe. I was thinking about getting either a proper Masonry heater but I wouldn't know where to source that or just a simple iron stove, which is getting increasingly heard to find because of the normal fags buying them up for their apartments here. Gas crisis and all that.

I just like open fires. Don't care about the Russians, don't care about the Ukrainians. I've always wanted a stove.

They're a bitch to start cold. Literally have to start a small fire in the chimney to get the hot air rising out of it and drawing through the heat box.

This is true. A well chimney'd, roaring fire draws cold air in from outside through every crack you can imagine and many you can't. The game is to get the stove hot enough and radiating to get ahead of that curve.

The best thing to have is an iron kitchen stove because it's dual use, not just for heating. And cooking on it is fun because it's powerful af, better even than a gas burner. Ideal for baking all sorts of meat dishes for hours on end, too. Not so great for pastries because it's not so easy to regulate and in sustained operation gets a wee bit too hot for baking, but you get used to it.

Yep. And yet the number of naive constructions don't do this. Even on Russian stoves, where it's in the middle of the room and an inlet has to come down from above you rarely see them outside Siberian villages.
It's just easier to starve the fire when you feel the draft.

Sounds like something a bakery would do. In domestic use, opening the hatch for half a minute or however long you need to reach the desired start temperature is usually enough. Goes back up fairly slowly, so it'll remain in the right ballpark for typical pastry baking durations.

I'm also interested in building a masonry stove in my unfinished basement that will also replace the deteriorating stairs. I already have a central chimney and cold air intake. Here are some of my concepts, what do you guys think? Anyone done this before?
