How do you guys organize all your stuff? I just finally got a garage with space to have a work station area, and I want some ideas.

Post em boys

Reject power tool wood working. Put all your hand tools on one tool box you make yourself. You can't do that? Learn or don't bother.

Wood working hobby is a meme pushed by the tool companies for 120 years.

Check yourube. It's just videos of guys building shop projects as far as the eye can see. Sometimes you'll get a gut making a piece of shit of some pallets or something.

T. Spent my 20s-40s trying to feel masculine by puttering around in garage. Made a couple animal hutches and shit to keep my tools from exploding all over the garage.

I might end up getting some tackle boxes to handle all the small shit I don't want to get rid of. I got all my dad's tools when he passed and he had a lot of extra little things(fuses, battery terminals, etc.) and I can't just keep shit on a shelf. He was a machinist so he had a shit ton of tools I can't use so I've been using a tool identifier to figure out what some of them are

I've never really taken an interest in woodworking, but I enjoy working on my truck and figuring shit out through youtube and an old haynes manual, my dad was a gearhead who rebuilt shit on his own so I like it in regards to that too I guess. And when shit breaks around the house or needs replacement, I learn that way. My idea of masculinity is knowing how to do everyday things that people take for granted, basically just dad knowledge. At the very least, be able to understand a problem and conceptualize a solution, also learned through just using your equipment.

Exactly. A man should be able to snake out a drain, hook up a gas line, replace an electrical outlet, etc. You should be embarrassed if you have to call a tradie for simple things like replacing your door locks or replacing a faucet.

Can't remember where I got this pic, but I like the idea. And deep down I know I'll never pay for what I want (Equipto-style cabinet).

I see ratty pans like this all the time in my local thrift shops, 50 cents, $1. I've been buying like ones (stack of 9x9 pans, stack of loaf pans, etc), and once I have enough I'll make a similar shelf/rack.

A mess in progress. Need to go thru more bins of crap and get those boxes on the wall. I really need a >40” main box.

The OP pic is some autist woodworker project but that is kind of impossible for a DIYer homeowner who is always adding more shit, especially if you do mechanic type stuff, so many blow molded cases of shit.

And for pegboard, I had it in the last garage and didn’t even bother, it ended up cluttered with stupid shit and it’s hard to set up hooks to store the stuff you want efficiently.

I don't have a lot of room so I hang shit on the wall.
- I bought a bunch of magnetic tool holders from mcmaster carr
- Lumberlok or similar lagscrews drilled into plywood for rolls of tape
- Big steel sheet screwed to the wall to hold small things with neodymium bar magnets
- Spring clamps screwed into the wall
- allround or plastic strapping formed into series of loops on the wall
Rest of the shit is on shelves or strewn about or labeled boxes and I've run out of space to put anything and I've got no time to deal with it anymore (first child born this year)

Anyway magnetic tool holders are my favorite way of storing everyday tools like knives, screwdrivers, pliers, etc.

If Ridgid had OPE, I would’ve gone that route.

However, I’ve been happy with the Ryobi. That chainsaw and hedge trimmer are both mid grade brushed tools with 4.0 basic non-HP batteries, the hedge trimmer chops right through anything that fits in the blades and the chainsaw kept spinning when I had the entire blade buried in the stump of some big palm. Got no complaints. Plus Ryobi shit is cheap, so when I need something basic like a light or fan, I would rather spend <$50 on a Ryobi version than $100 on the Ridgid version.

All adults should, making it an indicator of manliness is straight up COPE.

>You should be embarrassed if you have to call a tradie for simple things like replacing your door locks or replacing a faucet.
You should also be embarrased by feeling the need to characterize other people's choices as "having to" make that choice just so you can feel better about yourself.
In fact you should be thoroughly ashamed to even be thinking about other adult people's choices regarding these kinds of activities *at all*, let alone making public declarations about it for attaboys from others desperate to signal how manly they are.

Hanging stuff on the wall is good for really commonly used tools but if you do a lot of woodworking or grinding, it's all going to get covered with dust. Drawers and cabinets are good otherwise.

I've been down this road before. Don't do it. Electrical stuff is the absolute worst to try to keep organized, since every type of thing (resistors, caps, connectors, fuses, relays, ICs, sensors, LEDs, the list goes on) has 100 different subtypes, and often each one of those subtypes has a subsubtype. When you start putting shit in tackle boxes, unless you're very careful about how you organize it, you might as well throw it away, because you're never going to see it again.

I've found the best way to avoid clutter and minimize "forgotten items" is to maximize literal visibility of your stuff. Genuinely, taking the doors off of a bunch of my floor-to-ceiling storage cabinets was one of the smartest things I've ever done. Those harbor freight small parts organizers can be a blessing and a curse. If you're going to use one, you need to label each drawer, otherwise it just becomes a garbage container, and you might as well throw it away.

I used to have more automotive shit, but with all of the homeowner stuff, I’m ending up with a small box of plumbing and tile shit, a box of woodworking stuff like sanding blocks and the Kreg things. Can’t decide how exactly I would go about it.

The one thing is I love having my little tool bag, that thing plus a socket set for automotive, that bag plus one or two plumbing tools for those jobs, that bag plus a laser level for hanging shelves and shit, and the bag alone for general troubleshooting.

The handyman guy who used to help out at the rental house with some jobs had a small husky bag like that and I wanted to replicate it, one small bag to diagnose the problem before you go for the parts at Home Depot.

I still want to do something like this, my Ridgid hybrid fan has a bunch of mounting points but I don’t know where to hang it or how to best run the cord.

I have this cubby hole where the water heater is behind my workbench and there’s a single bulb basic light fixture down there, I’m thinking I will rip the light out and install an outlet instead so I can run some extension cords out of there instead of having them on top of the workbench.

Here’s the idea with that light..:

This house, every bedroom has like 5 outlets but for some reason the garage only has one plus the garage door opener outlet on the cieling. So if I need to plug a cord in for a saw or something, it has to lay across the surface of the workbench.

That switch on the workbench is for the light bulb in the cubby hole. So if I ripped out that light socket and put an outlet in, I could easily keep an extension cord out of the way running it to the fan and any other equipment and use the switch to control it.

Good idea? I don’t really need that light in the cubby hole, I have some bullshit stored in there and the water heater is behind it and I can use a flashlight in there.

Good idea?

I guess it depends on where you’re at when you’re 50. Union tradie could be making 6 figures in his early-mid 30s but have a busted back by 50. Non-STEM 4 year degree could be facing layoffs and never going above $70k through their 30s, but if they climb the corporate ladder, maybe they have a little team under them and hitting 6 figures after bonuses with a back that isn’t fucked at 50.

you're gonna want a multi-layer approach for top hoarding. First you line the walls with peg-board. Then at chest level you're gonna want work-bench tier table/shelving that goes along the sides of the work room. You can then subdivide the lower sections into actual drawers or cubby hole spaces for large containers or tool chests. Now since you didnt finish the cieling you're gonna wanna get some cordage and hang stuff off of it, like baskets full of gloves and shit. We arent done yet, because that ladder in the corner can be used to access the rafters, where you are going to shove all the shit you will never use but dont want to throw away up there. Get some 2x6s and make some light shelves that fit between the rafters. Dont put anything heavy up there though, because realistically the framing of your roof isnt designed to hold weight in that direction but its fine if its just a few hundred pounds. probably.

I’m sick of moving shit on the shelf and digging into a bin with a jar inside and grab a bag at the bottom of that jar to get two small screws or a zip tie. Let’s see how this guy works.

I like things in cabinets. When the tools are hanging on the wall they collect dust. Then you grab the tool and stir up dust.

Cabinets, everywhere. Yes you have to open the cabinet but the tools stay dust free while you work and clean-up is easy.

I recently upgraded to 6 different sizes of resealable plastic bags, up from two (gallon and quart).

Not even that guy.
The commodification of basic human responsibilities has been a disaster for mankind - it has made people fat, sloppy, useless, and pathetic.

It's precisely through the hyper-specialization of every being on this overpopulated planet into factory drones, capable only of performing one single task (the drain-snaking man, the electrical-socket-replacing man, the gutter-cleaning man) is what made people so fucking helpless that now we need a massive, globalist society necessary to support all these useless eaters.
>I'M A BIG BOY BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE THE CONFIDENCE TO CRITICIZE ANYONE
>M-M-MY INABILITY TO CRITIQUE ANYONE IS A SIGN OF MY MORAL HIGH GROUND OVER YOU

The reason normalfags hire people to do everything for them is one of two reasons:
>they're helpless and pathetic
>they're lazy and pathetic
I don't care if that condemns 90% of the world's population, because it's not my fucking problem.

These people are inferior, and I will say it with no shame.
Will I say it to their face, no, because I don't want to be a mean cunt, but I will always deem them inferior, and I will be right.

The average person cannot do anything besides their drone wagecuck job, and it is a tragedy.

Yeah fuck that. 3 kids (3+5) and and biggest diy project ever since is "organising" my workspace cause I only have time to repair something around the house and then just throw the tools I needed on the bench somewhere

Oh so this is normal. I assumed so. The only thing I do is work, fix small shit and honestly haven't cleaned my workspace since the baby was born 3 months ago as I too just dump shit on my bench when I'm done.

I store ammo in my ammo cans but never found anything I like to put in those things other than that. I rigged a can on my old tractor once and put a chain in it but that didn't last long.
