real wirenuts are only made to fit up to 6 awg.
Use pic related if you don't need to do very many of them, or use polaris type connectors. Or use crimpable connectors and possibly binding posts or bus bars depending on what you're doing

They're graded for at least 2 wires, so for a single 4 you should be able to use one for two 8's, since it's just the one wire.
