What do fags think about my stubby screwdriver? PVC fitting with a screwdriver bit grouted into it. I needed one for installing a hinge in a small cabinet. Didn't want to drive 30 minutes to buy one.

Home made tools general I guess.

Not bad, it's not like it's art or anything. My dad taught me to grind tools back in highschool. We were working on his car, and couldnt get to a screw (fucking Ford, man), so he showed me how to bend an old screwdriver with a torch, then grind the tip down.
Pretty basic stuff, but shocking how few know how.

I grind round-shank screwdrivers into carb jet removal hollow-ground versions that look like )( viewed from the side.

That grabs the jet (or other soft screwlike part) rather than smearing it. My Vincent-restoring mentor devised that about fifty years ago and it works superbly. Do a tidy job and don't overheat the tip I keep a cup of water handy and dip when the tip gets warm.

Works great on gun screws too.

I found a Popular Mechanics Torx screwdriver in a parking lot. The tip was completely trashed so I converted it into an ice pick.

That's the extent of my creativity, basically.

I've welded a deep socket to a box end wrench for valve adjustments. I made a shitty bearing press with a bottle jack and some scrap angle iron. Made a bar with some hooks that lets me pull an engine using my post lift.

I was just bullshitting about grinding a phillips screwdriver of course, but I do have one of those D-bit grinders like this:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/313371117315

So I actually could do it if I really wanted to waste the time...

I've got a bunch of tools that I have made over the years. I've posted up a bunch of them on here in the past in different threads. Necessity is the mother of invention.

Socket with a slit cut out of it to fit over brake line fittings. You grip it with a pair of vice grips. This works even better than a brake line wrench.

I mean it's cool that you're resourceful, but this really wasn't the best way to do it. You could've just ground the tip of a nail and then bent it at 90 degrees. Faster, cheaper, and you'd also have extra leverage because of the 90* bend (+ you can put an extra handle on it if you need more force). Idk how much force you can put in a screw using a smooth pvc fitting.

This reminded me of an axle socket I had that was too big. I made a slice with a wide kerf on either side, pound in together until it fit, then welded it up.
