I found this idea in the last /diy/ "You want to build you lose" thread. I've already got the instructions on how to hollow out a light bulb, but now I'm interested in the plant part of it. How do I create the biome and plants for in hear? Is there anything in particular I need to help it keep?

I'm not quite sure what you're asking...

I'd put "air plants" in it, but that's just me...all the need is to be sprayed with water every few days

How do you even get a lightbulb open like that, without breaking it?

>> No.23525

>>23513
You just cut out the filament. The circle part on the top of the metal area.

>> No.23557

>>23525
But how do you do that? Do you use a knife? Scissors? A special tool?

>> No.23575

well to make it completely sustainable you'd have to have a method of getting water to it...not sure how work...

without that its nothing more than a unique plant pot

>> No.23578

>>23557
yeah just stab it with scissors and scrape it out.

what are these called?

maybe a tube you can put water in and it flows into the bulb and waters the plant

OP. Here's something I found that you may want to look into.

No, you just need to keep the water from evaporating and leaving the bulb. You can seal it off, but then you have the problem that there's no air for the plants.

Sorry, I kinda rushed through that. I don't know much about planting or any sort of gardening in general, so I was wondering how I'd get the plants in there and sustain them. Also if there's any particular plants I need.

>>23494
I'm not familiar with those, can I get them offline or from a store?

>>23637
Seems interesting from what I skimmed, thanks.

>>23575
Do you suppose I could use a pipette to just leave in the soil. Sort of like those glass things I see stick out of potted plant sometimes? Or would that provide too little water? I was wanting to hang this up in my dorm since I don't have much else in it.

Cool, thanks!

Argh...
High humidity equals what? MOULD!
Solve this problem first, then we can talk about self sustainability...

>> No.23702

>>23682
That's why you use moss. Mold can't compete with moss.

>> No.23725

which moss is best moss?

>> No.23728

>>23682
Well... you could use mould instead of usual plants - problem solved.

>> No.23754

>>23702
but what if you don't want moss in your "instalation"?

Using water plants (and filling bulb with water) is another solution.
I can imagine a small shrimp wandering inside:3

There's a ton of terrarium accessories from bowls, moss, charcoal, stones, on etsy.com Moss is very hardy, you can squeeze into tiny spaces and have it fluff back out and be healthy.

I just started water scaping last week with Marimo and it's pretty adorable.
