Fuck it /DIY, I'm going to just go ahead and foam the rest of this in with great stuff, rather than cutting/stuffing insulation around it.

You know, because this fucking vent fan and shit is round and has turns and is like impossible to fill in with insulation.

Any problems with this?

P.S., I will then be putting cement board, and tile on top of all this.

I had a REDONK amount of Tuff-R lying around for reasons I don't want to talk about. I was using it for my dormer walk in shower. Now I'm sick of that and want to use 'great stuff' foam to fill it all in.

I am looking for advice. Is it for some unseen reason a terrible idea to do this?

>> No.222234

Worst case scenario is you spray too much and end up having to carve some off in order to get your cement board up.
Spray foam doesn't have a great insulation rating, but it's good enough for filling small spaces and gaps.

Thanks!

I mean, its going to be surrounding my bathroom fans venting and my recessed lights; which say 'vapor barrier must be able to handle 90 C'

This is all still dandy yeah?

Still kinda looking for some detailed "don't fucking worry so much" advice.

You're right to be careful about insulating around those lights. The fan will be fine.

Maybe read this:

Nevermind, I read it and it basically says "call a professional". WTF kind of "Do it yourself guide" is that?

Anyway, you should have non-combustible insulation around the lights and you probably need an air gap to let them cool a bit. Spray foam is combustible.

Hey op, for around your lights and fan, any place that says temp is an issue your going to want to go with some 3m 78HT polystyrene foam insulation. Handles heat up to 140°.

Good luck in your project op!

forgot to mention, my boss has us use long bread knives to cut the insulation, the serrated edge goes through the stuff like nothing and the knives are usually long enough to make the job really easy.

Celsius or Fareinheight?

I have Tuff=R stuff currently around those lights... I think I should be okay?

http://building.dow.com/na/en/products/insulation/tuffr.htm

>> No.222776

Light sez that.

What do youthink it means?

"suitable for direct contact with thermal insulation"

The Super Tuff R sez

"This product5 is combustible and shall only be used as specified by local building code with respect to flame spread classification and to the use of a suitable thermal barrier. "

what does THAT mean, cuz we have some around the recessed lights already..... hurumpff... this is stressful.
