I made a coif like that last year for a fashion designer who took part in the Caribbean Fashion Week on Jamaica, the rings were golden-painted.

Also, what wire are you using (material and diameter, if possible in mm) and how big are your rings (inner diameter)?

Badass hauberk. I've started building one of those, just to see how long it takes. Now, I've got two questions for you:
1) How long did it take you to build that?
2) What're the diameters of the wire and of the mandrel you used?

What about the rings in the shirt you're wearing in the pic above?

>> No.199716

If you want to make riveted rings (takes much more time, it's much more complicated, but comes out much easier AND it is historically accurate) use 1.2mm wire and 7-8mm rings.

If you make butted rings, use 1.6-1.8mm (if you plan to use it for combat, go for 1.8; if not, 1.6 is enough) mild steel wire and 8mm rings.

>> No.199717

>>199709

Ah, okay.
It is 16g 1/4".
So 1.6 mm wire size and 6.4 mm inner diameter.
It is made based off of the tutorial here, but I did a lot different in construction especially the armpits.

Depends on how big you are.
Some people use one 1/4 mile spool, some use two.
Also depends on how long you want it to be.

I got mine at a local tractor supply store.
Its 14g galvy or "electric fence wire".

Here's an old progress pic of my berk.
You can really see the 45 degree seems here.
I love this seem. Used it on bikini and berk.

Again, 14g 3/8", not 16g 1/4".
Sorry, I'm getting heavy pregnancy amnesia.
I also stopped since I wont be able to wear it for ren fest or anything for at the least the next year or more because I will have sore bosoms and be breastfeeding...
Might be able to get the man to wear it though, so I may finish it soon.

There's a lot of information out there, just go look for it!

I got most of my knowledge from MAIL (Maille Artisans International League, mailleartisans.org) and all my large purchases come from The Ring Lord, little ones from Ebay. My advice: make yourself a mandrel setup like this one:

It makes coiling a thousand times easier. Also, don't attempt to coil anodized aluminum wire; the coating will crack and flake. Either buy anodized rings or make coils and anodize them before cutting.
If this thread is up later I may post a pic of my cinched DS earrings.
