There are zero standards for building in China. Have you seen the insane amount of clips/videos there are of buildings in China falling down due to shitty standards and poor workmanship? If you really want to live in a pre-built house from China go ahead, but you're playing with fire.

They ship globally. They have customers all around the world and their reviews are great. I understand there are lots of videos of unsafe buildings in China. I'm not sure that would also apply to exports to countries like the U.S. but I see your point. It's definitely something to consider both ways.

I just don't see the fuss though to be honest. We Americans use Chinese products for so many things and hardly ever have an issue. I bought the shoes I'm wearing for 20 freakin bux off Amazon. Damn shoes cane straight from some Chinese factory. I've travelled, hiked, worked and done everything in these shoes for 3 years. There is absolutely no sign of failure in the shoes so far.

20 bux.

I think the quality you get from China just depends on the company/factory you choose. China makes a ton of great products for cheap. And now that I'm starting to sound like a CCP shill, I'll just end it at that.

>> No.1979477

Well I'm nkt bullshitting you, not to say you're calling BS. The brand is Deng Jeng or some shit. Idk the logo on the sole of the shoe has faded. But yeah- I expected the same would happen for mine, but like I said, been going on for 3 years now. I really think it just depends on who you buy from over there, or anywhere for that matter. I will agree that China definitely has MORE factories and companies that turn out complete garbage, than say the U.S. for example. The lack of regulations is why you'd expect better quality here. Still doesn't mean you can't find a company doing it right in China. Not everyone is looking to make a quick buck.

Comparing a 20 dollar pair of shoes to a prefab house? Well okay then, go for it, I'm sure a prefab house sold on Alibaba is built to the highest standards.

>> No.1979509

>>1979505
Well I'm not comparing my shoes to a prefab house. I'm just making a point that not everything is made poorly in China. You can lot's of times save yourself a ton of money for a comparable product. Whether or not this prefab is worth even $1,000 is still up in the air. There customers do fly to the factory many times and see for themselves before they buy, which I will probably do. Go see the factory, head to Cambodia and Thailand, have some fune and then leave.

You get what you pay for.
$8k is less than a year's rent in a shithole apartment in my area
If you go into it thinking "this building might last five years" then it might be worth it.
Be prepared to repair whatever breaks (or more likely, replace), which will increase the cost of ownership.
But really, what can you expect for eight grand?

Presumably it's not going to fall down on you during a storm and kill you, and probably not going to catch fire and prevent safe egress.
That said, I'd put smoke detectors in every corner of every room.

This. There's nothing inherently wrong with kit-houses. Used to be basically the norm in the US for a couple decades, and there are still many Sears mail-order houses still standing today, going for anywhere between 50-200 times the original price, depending on the condition and local real estate market. But ordering from China on the cheap just seems like a bad idea all around. You might be better off seeing if there are any companies in your area offering similar prefabs. Might be more expensive, but shipping should be cheaper, and you can be a bit more confident it will pass a surprise inspection, so it about evens out.

>> No.1981104

Ok, I will give you a real answer.

First off, Alibaba is not one entity. You don't buy from Alibaba directly the way you would buy directly from Amazon when you're buying like an Echo or some AmazonBasics stuff. It's more like eBay where it's just a storefront host for lots and lots of manufacturers. So I use Alibaba for manufacturing metal display accessories for the company I work at. I had to do a whole lot of shopping around and getting samples before I made a final decision. You don't just pick the first guy on the front page.

You will also want to look into import regulations for your country. I had to make sure that the metals and coatings being used were allowed to be brought into my country. Your country's customs site should have more information on that. You will get fucked in the ass if you get caught bringing something you shouldn't in, all there is to it.

Keep the cost of shipping in mind. You are not a tiny house seller selling dozens of these homes a month to techbros on the west coast constantly needing more product. You are one person who wants a house. Manufacturers have no interest in cutting you the deals they would with companies, who are the intended audience for Alibaba purchase. Just because the MOQ says 1 doesn't mean it's actually 1.

Last point, the price you see is not necessarily the price you will get. Alibaba is not like a store you just buy shit from and it gets sent to you (their B2C site is AliExpress). On Alibaba, the price you are seeing is a sample price. You need to contact the manufacturer with information about what you are looking for and THEN you will get the price.

Hope this helps OP.

Those cost under 10k? how do they ship that thing? do you have to assemble it yourself? if so, then I don't see much problem, you can hire a contractor to assemble it for you, that would include making the foundation, inspecting the materials and adding a few reinforcements if necessary. I know this is a diy board, but if you're planning to live there, then by all means and all things considered, get a contractor. Once it's structurally safe, then add the finishes yourself. I wouldn't know how much extra you'd have to pay, but it should be able to withstand weather, earthquakes and fire, you should only take care of the fire part.
