I have a treadmill without the wood board 'inside' the rolling carpet. I know the measurements but not the material.
I think it shouldnt be plywood as it cannot offer much resistance to the carpet, I remember it was a bit glossy.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Want to say some kind of melamine for slip but you wont get that to hold a human without osb or ply underneath.
A kitchen worktop offcuts MAYBE.

I ripped apart a treadmill, it had MDF inside with black paint on it.

Imagine wanting to use a treadmill as an actual treadmill and not just scrapping it for the steel, rollers, DC motor, and motor controller...

Get a sheet of MDF and cover it with hardboard if you really want to diy. Otherwise, buy a new deck from sportsmith or fitnessrepairparts.

It is MDF but it's usually faced with something rather than painted. I don't know with what, but I've been able to chip it off on some I've worked on.

I sold 300lbs of treadmill motors today for $24. Parting out a single residential unit probably isn't worthwhile.

I should have said salvaging instead of scrapping. The DC motor and motor controller are useful for DIY stuff. The steel and rollers are as well.

It's probably HDPE, maybe UHMW. Both are pretty slick and offer decent wear resistance. Some might use PTFE or something similar. Any of those would work, although they're all a huge pain in the ass to adhere to anything. I'd suggest figuring out some way to fasten a sheet of it mechanically, if I were you. A recessed line of screws at either end should work fine, I'd think.

Could just use a solid block of the stuff, I suppose, but I don't even want to know what a chunk of PTFE that size would cost. Even HDPE wouldn't be that cheap at that kind of girth.
