Hey /diy/, I'm trying to install a daisy chain of outlets from a GFCI outlet in my garage. There's only 2 outlets and I've had enough of extension cords.

I'm trying to do it like this guy in the video below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOMSZRft2oE&t=265s

He mentions from his GFCI there's a light that's hooked up and it's no big deal and just wires both hots and nuetrals together, pig tails it to GFCI along with grounding the box and GFCI.

I know my garage lights are daisy chained from my GFCI but I do not know what else is daisy chained past the lights. I would not feel comfortable wiring the hots and nuetrals together and just putting them in the Line of the GFCI. Also worth mentioning, the wires going to my lights were originally put in the Load of the GFCI

I tried making a bunch of pig tails that connect Line nuetrals/hots and load nuetrals/hots to the GFCI then to where my next outlet would be but there were too many wires and wire nuts to even put the receptacle in.

Is there anything different I should be doing? I already have a deep 4 gang metal box.

In the sense of code violation? Not a damn thing. Yells "I was made by an inexperienced person" louder than a three point saddle. I like to be able to pull a switch leg easily years later so I don't do shit like that.

It's clunky, and unneeded. Just run individual colored strands.

In 30 plus years, I have never actually seen an appliance that uses the 20 amp plug option. Where do they have these appliances?

Shrug, it's the way I finished it.. I have the conduit supported by some conduit hooks or whatever they may be called. Turned out alright but yeah it's probably obvious an inexperienced did it. I feel pretty comfortable with my Sheppard hooks to receptacle though.. Knowing how to bend would have been ideal but just paid a serious premium for pre bent..

Did you also block the box in the wall? Putting wire nuts where only the fire department can find them isn't the best idea in any building where you plan to sleep.

Do you mean putting the metal box over the original gfci opening? Yeah I guess I did.

What would you have done to avoid ripping out drywall and drilling 2x4

I would have used something designed to work in that exact situation. It would look like:
https://www.platt.com/platt-electric-supply/4-Square-Boxes-Accessories-Extensions/Hubbell-Raco/187/product.aspx?zpid=52108
It attaches to the mud ring and extends the box in the wall instead of hiding the box and making it inaccessible.

Didn't know those existed. I'll redo the gfci

Instead of waiting for one to be mailed I could probably just cut a hole into the one I have with a dremel right?

Dremel will work fine. Just mark and keep it straight.

Yeah re-wire it so you don’t have so many wires in one box. Or install a deep 2 gang box and us a GFCI/blank cover. Or better yet call a licensed electrician, like me.

Don’t dis the 3 point saddle man, when it comes to fucked commercial remodels, it’s sometimes the only option.

>remodels
>the only option
Demo of poorly planned and ugly existing pipework
90 down to a pull box and 90 back up with the obstruction in the radius
pick a different elevation
go another way that takes more pipe and wire- but is cleaner

Claim an elevation and path in the submittal. Stick to the contract. The other trades have been doing this for ages. You don't have to back yourself into a corner. You don't have to be just "good enough".
