Want to insulate my van. Is there any type which doesn't cause health issues in such a small space?

For such a small space the hard pink extruded foam would probably be best. I don't know what you mean by health issues though, asbestos has been illegal in the USA as residential insulation for decades

spray foam is the best if you have not started your build yet and its a gutted cargo van

I wouldn't know but from what research I have done spray foam constantly gives off toxic fumes

No, once it cures there are no fumes
There might be mild outgassing for a limited time.
None of this is dangerous though if you apply correctly

There is only one answer to your question. Me and my wife used that for the whole house and it was worth every penny, plus we did not have to pay someone to do it, since its non toxic !

I understand crumpled up plastic grocery bags are excellent insulators because heat and cold would otherwise have to travel the entire crumpled surface before it gets to the opposite side.
Idk however if those bags offgas and wreck your life though

Aerogel is safe, need just a thin sheet but it is expensive.

Saw some ads for wool insulation made for vans. Looks comfy and expensive

"Wreck his life?" He's already living in a van down by the river.

Insulate it. If it kills you, the insulation was no good.

rockwool or glass based fibers are inert and are very good insulators. rockwool has a bit higher temperature tolerances, but glass based fibers are significantly lighter and likely better for a van

Mineral wools: shed possibly dangerous fibers, not sure how they handle condensation

Plastic foams: massive fire hazard, possibly high VOCs.

You have to choose though.

It's expensive but you can use wool; it also is antimicrobial so you won't get mold.

Use some biologic stuff, best is wood basis. Your question is legit, don't use rockwool or other insulations with chemicals in it.

I live this life in an RV guys. I have a Generator on it, but to be honest, IVE used many layers of different Blankets to keep war at night. Works like a charm. Figure out how many layers you need for the temp outside. Also, those weighted Blankets Walmart sells keeps the cold out!! Amazing product. Good luck and hope this helps you.
