So far I've unscrewed and cleaned out everything that unscrews and comes apart, but whatever blockage there is seems to be down in the lower part where it looks like things are pasted or cemented together (to me). Basically how can I damp proof 3 layers of brick which is under the damp proof membrane

Go rent a 25-50ft medium duty power auger. Looks like 1.5-2in pipe so a small powered auger should be able to get to the 3-4in main line. Once it's not backing up flush the shit out of the system and another tip is don't get the auger hung up in the 3in line they can twist themselves into a knot of sorts. Basically you just need to go as far as you can before hitting 3in+ and getting the blockage out. Keep the pipe taken apart like you got makes it easier to run the auger with less curves and shit

The only DIY I have ever done in my life is putting up a shelf, so I recommend you try that as a first project. Get a drill, learn what your walls are made of, put Rawlplugs in the wall, attach a couple of metal brackets, buy a plank of wood and a saw, saw the wood into the right size, put it on top of the brackets, and voila, you have a shelf. For added fun, you can get a stud finder and make sure you're not going to drill into an electrical wire and kill yourself. The only thing I can think of that's more basic than this is putting caustic soda down a drain to unblock it.

There's a house for sale near my work which says it "requires full modernisation". It has 1970s carpets and shit, but I don't mind that. Is there anything else I will need to consider when looking at it? How can I be confident the wiring is okay? How can I check the plumbing is good? Can I check the roof for leaks if it isn't raining when I go there? I am in England, if different countries have different laws for this sort of thing.

plumbing question:

Just moved into a house (been apartment and motel living for 15+ years for the job). 50+ years old, was sitting empty 2 months while the landlords had it thoroughly cleaned.

Thinking I may need to get a plumber, but thought I'd check here to see if you guys had some insight otherwise.

When I first moved in the toilets had a gray chalky layer on the surface every morning. Assumed it was from dust or misuse, so I made a point of flushing it 2-3 times a day.

No chalky residue a week later, but water still discolored and a odor accompanies it (previously released when you broke the chalk layer). I reclean the whole apparatus and get those sapphire blue bleach tablets.

Now a week passed since then and the sapphire fades to green or greyish in the span of a day and the odor persists. LL said they've never had any sewer gas issues before (they lived there 20+ years prior to me) but are willing to pay for any necessary repairs.

Anything else I could try before calling in a professional?

I'm guessing your house must be old because you have a S trap instead of a P trap. The problem is if you fill your sink up and pull the plug, the water draining out will form a siphon and suck all of the water out of the trap. With no water left to trap the smell, you will get the stinky sewer smell coming back out of your pipe. Replace the S trap with a P trap and you'll be good to go.

Archival framing is highly contentious on forums so you have to tune out most of what you read anywhere and what adhesive degrades cels is going to be the hard part because you usually tape things to the board in lieu of more annoying methods. You're looking at UV glass, acid free cotton rag paper for the matte and any number of backing materials sandwiched in. The paints used are cheap and none of them are light-fast or particularly good looking because they're designed to photograph well and be thrown away. Full spectrum UV glass, limited lighting when it isn't in storage, and moisture control from the backing are going to be the most important. Unless you're set up to do framing and matting, asking local watercolor artists where they get their shit framed is probably cheaper and easier. But most watercolorists are fucking retarded and use victorian pigments made from flower petals that yellow under glass in a week so...yeah.

My reasoning being that of course the wood is dirt cheap but also you could use a cheap piece of shit CNC router from Amazon to make your molds instead of needing a beefier router or mill for aluminum. I have 200 amp service to my house. Would that be at 120V or 240V? Would I only effectively have 100 amps at 240V, or could I draw 400 amps at 120V? Or none of the above?

split phase power, 240v center tapped giving 120v each phase and that tap is the neutral. connecting across both hots gives you the full 240v with no neutral since its only needed for 120v (however appliances usually will have a neutral to power 120v electronics and such).
but to answer your question, as >>1929262 said its 200 amps at 240 volts so 48000 watts of pure flowing electrons (not considering the 80% rule of course).

Need homemade head or complete body. Precious old mommy died and having a hard time. Been over a year and still cant bring myself to remove or disturb any of her personal belongings or anything we had setup for her care that went on for years. I stuffed a pair of her pajamas with other clothes and made a replica of her laying in bed under the covers. The head is hard to make right but it is sort of OK with this nightcap hat thing I stretched over other clothes but the ‘face’ wont stay together. Seems like a blowup doll would work good but that would make me feel like even more of a Norman bates style freak than I already am at dealing with all this. I want a mannequin head or something. With a thread gauge.

Of course, if you have some non-standard thread, then you're kinda fucked there. At that point, yeah, get out the calipers and do some basic math. Where you measure on the thread doesn't matter, as long as you use the same point at the start/end of your measurement.

So, my stupid questions are: is my A/C going to burn out or combust if I leave it running like this constantly? I'm worried it might just do that.

Secondly, can I unplug it to turn it off? It says I can't really unplug it lawfully since I'm not a qualified electrician.

I need to figure out a way to ultimately turn it off so please help me /diy/.

Spade bits leave rough, inaccurate, splintered holes, they are made to make quick rough holes. In thin material the splintering will be really bad. The "speed" ones with the screw tips at the end are even rougher.

The forstner bit will make a very nice clean hole.
If you are too cheap to buy a forstner bit, making a through hole in small material you are better off just buying a cheap hole saw. Spade bits are unironically shit

It uses the same mechanics as an air raid siren. There are schematics on sites for 3d printing for hand crank air raid sirens. Stukas most likely had them mounted at an angle and used the air passing through it or a clutch/motor so the siren was only on in a dive or when the pilot wanted. Numerous complaints were given by pilots where the mechanism failed and the pilots listened to it the whole way back to base. Learn from that and make a way to stop the fucker from turning.

So I'm trying to change my motorcycle turn indicators and /o/ wasn't really helpful.
On the left you can see the wires for my new indicators, on the right is a connector for my old indicators. How do I get the new ones into this connector? They do not fit like this.
What would be the easiest way to perform this?

>> No.1932560

>>1932517
I would cut off the conectors and solder on some different ones.
Alternatively I'd just solder them and use shrink tube to make sure they are protected against corrosion or short cirquits.

>> No.1932565

>>1932560
It's very difficult soldering in such a cramped and limited space. And I do have very little soldering experience, but I would do that if nothing else works. Could I just cut off the connector on right and not touch the two golden-coloured things on the right, but just plug in the wires in there? I mean, are those two conductors on the left?

>> No.1932569

>>1932565
You could do a bodge by jamming the wires in there and pulling a shrink tube over it.
I don't recommend doing that though.
Alternatively just remove the conectors from your old indicators and solder them onto the new ones, then plug it in.

Yes, the pin labels are what they do, not what they connect to.

As you figured out, TX transmits, RX receives.
"+" and "-" are polarities and need to match to interpret the signals correctly.
TX+ connects to RX+
TX- connects to RX-.

This tore off today. It’s clearly torn off before. Current plan is to patch drywall, but that seems doomed to fail again. Do I need to tear out enough drywall to run a stud across that space so I can mount these things properly?

You can see where the top left one has pulled out before too. It’s askew and barely hanging on.

Stop!

Go on ebay and search motorcycle turn connectors. The wires given are sometimes too short, soldering will result in a connection you will need to cut after turn signal goes out in 1 year.

The turn signal connectors from eBay will plug into old one on one end, and into your plugs in the other. No soldering, cutting or wiring required. They sell for about $5 and are cheaper to just buy than to spend any time doing any other modification.

Depends on how far. standoffs are for smaller things but they make large ones.
Ever considered taking the etsy pill and using plumbing parts? Pipe flange and pipe.

looks like a repurposed lever style pressure safety valve like the ones you see on hot water tanks. You could use a turn handle or a ball valve, all depends on what works best.

Yall ever have stupid ass projects that end up taking you
>1000x longer than you initially thought
>Cost more than you ever imagined
>End up coming out like shit despite everything
and just utterly depress you every time you look at them because you can't help but think of all the wasted time and money only to have a piece of shit?

I want to build a bench for outdoor /diy/ activities and was thinking of using MDF or similar material for the bench top. Would painting it in regular ass house paint be enough to stop it getting wrecked if it rains etc?

I want to 3D model the Genesis 6-button controller so I can make a customized version of the enclosure/buttons.
I looked into 3D scanning but the guys bloody want to charge me over $1000 to entirely scan the thing.

So without resorting to 3D scanning, is there any concievable way I can measure out the dimensions and aspects of this controller? I thing I can get the rough max width+height by setting up some squares on a flat surface. But no idea how I can accuractely determine arc lengths, radii, etc. without some significant guesswork involved.

Better yet, is there any reliable 3D models floating around of this controller?

Would a Sega employee share these design details if I agreed to sign an NDA?

gonna build a fence and a small deck. currently running the standard 18 tooth blade that came with my dewalt circular saw. the cuts are okay qaulity wise, but so far i only build rough stuff like sawhorses etc. would it be worth spending almost 50 euros on a freud 48 or more tooth blade?

other option would be a better blade from bosch, dewalt etc. for slightly less
