>so if i was wrong, I will not have a problem as long as I am careful and slow

>edge off more
>no drip
>gently edge off more
>not even loose

Plastic bags are supposed to be temporary. Cable maintenance is not a thing anymore so no one can actually fix anything unless someone is out of service, and they are only supposed to fix their one ticket to save time.

Old cases arent made anymore so it's a pain in the ass to put a new one on, so just wrap it in a bag. The bags are pretty tough and actually last like 3 years even in shitty sun and wind. The new Corning/3m slices cases dont even last that long if varmints are going after them.

It's only a 200 or 300 pair actually, 1200 would be way more massive than this. A construction contractor sliced through it by accident and instead of splicing we thankfully were able to just run a new line, they figured it would be easier to just do that. We left the old cable dangling out of the ceiling, as a reminder.

99% that's a 1200. I can see the 100 pair groups. Paper insulated pairs is small. They might have downsized it already or something on the far end, because you would have gotten rekt for hitting a 1200 pair paper cable back in the oldndays.

Yes, dolphins have been forbidden. Since the early 80s. They moved to scotchlocks or 710 modules. Splicers would ignore the guidelines and strip the conductors even though they are IDC and they couldn't train them to stop fucking itnupnso they had to switch to scotchlocks so it was more obvious they didnt need to strip the wire.

Also they wouldn't stop twisting the wires together super tight like they are gonna dip them in a solder pot. Except they were retarded and twisted the PAIR together and so tightly it damages the insulation so it falls off and the pair starts shorting out in 2005 and no one ever fixed it.

This is like 80% of the trouble I find in areas that ever used beanies.

I swear copper isnt even as bad for maintenance as people say, it's just decades of bad practices and cheap solice cases. Fiber is treated with kid gloves and always better splice cases because its fiber, but if ever single copper splice was in a stainless case, there wouldn't be any problems with copper either.

I ruined a dell palmrest after leaving the alcohol on for too long, the coating bubbled up just like in your picture. That was because I sprayed the keyboard and then closed the lid. If you just wipe it off and let it evaporate the coating won't be damaged.
I've heard that it isn't the alcohol that causes this damage but acetone. Some brands add acetone to their alcohol to discourage drinking. That or the acetone is just a byproduct of the manufacturing process.

They should legalize on what you can do with the recordings, but not when you can record.

Like you can record conversations you're taking part without announcing it, but if you share that recording, then you're in trouble.

This would still allow you to gather evidence of abuse and many, many things that can actually be used in court or in a complaint.

Back in the old day you just laid them down as fast as possible. The pairs are in 25 and 100 pair groups and those had to be kept straight, but the individual pairs were wild. At the originating side of the cable and terminating side of the cable you would tone out pairs and just set them up in order.

Paper insulated cable isnt used anymore, so now you would have to tone out every pair to start with if you were adding a new cable to paper, or doing a repair. Takes 2 people and you can only get like 150-200 pair done a day.

I think I messed up like 4 out of 3600 my first time

>Fiber is treated with kid gloves and always better splice cases because its fiber

I used to do fibre to the home as well as street level stuff, I wish I had saved some of the photos I had from that job. Here in NZ they hire fuckloads of poo in loos to do this and their work is unbelievably shit, you will turn up to a cabinet after half a dozen street shitters have been working in it, open the tray you need to splice in and just cry inside. Here's a fun story.

>Pajeet gets sent out for simple install
>~15m from external box underfloor to modem inside
>Doesn't staple the cable up, can't even be fucked to AT LEAST run it over the top of some bearers to keep it off the floor, just leaves it sitting on the dirt
>Fibre runs right past underfloor access manhole
>Apparently there was a leak under the floor or something so pajeet tells customer
>customer calls plumber, plumber gets under the floor, immediately steps on fibre right by the manhole and breaks it
>pajeet is sent back on the fault call
>does literally the EXACT SAME cable run, doesn't even pull the old one out
>customer gets under the floor once pajeet is gone to make sure its been done properly, steps on the cable and breaks it
>managers finally send out based english dude, fixes it properly
>He shows me the picture he took of the two cables just lying on the dirt right next to the manhole

Lmao fuck pajeets, NZs whole fibre rollout is an absolute disaster because of them. Another fun story.

>Job says to do some trunking along the internal wall, drill through into the lounge
>Pajeet doesn't realise there is a fucking SLIDING DOOR on the interior wall he was drilling through
>runs fibre through sliding door, leaves
>customer closes sliding door, snaps fibre

Well yeah. But even still the copper splices and copper work is worse because even in absolute garbage conditions it will still last a couple years.

We've been lucky around here the fiber build has been kept inside the company. Even still they had awful training for a bunch of the splicers. In open cases constantly and am just like, wtf are you thinking. Why is there 20 ft of slack in the expansion tray, PLUS 6 ft in the splice tray? Why did you ever think it was okay to stub out if both sides of this tray? It cant move now.

I'm completely rebuilding a splice this week that we just cant work in anymore because the trays can't be touched without knocking someone out

Kind of reminds me of a computer job I caught from an auto shop, complaint of cooling issues, plus getting an upgrade. Old computer was crudded up with greasy lint and some mystery crud resembling sawdust.

I snagged an additional case fan off another old PC case and installed it to intake through the front, and used the foam from a hard drive packaging as a filter.

I don't know if it worked well or blew up but it didn't come back while I was still working there. (I quit about 6 months later over an unrelated dispute with the boss.)

Line splice. Common back in the day but no longer up to code. Based on the insulation on those wires I'm gonna say that wiring is 70+ years old. Still younger than that knob and tube stuff but plenty old.

>newer automated line has a double valve system so diaphragms can be changed on the fly

>never done one on older machines but lead tech trusts me to handle it on my own
>should be simple enough: 4 allen head screws to pop off the valve
>mosey on in and start pulling the screws
>First 3 go fine
>as soon as the 4th comes out the valve jettisons itself to the floor
>or so I assume, hard to tell with 70 PSI sugar water spraying like a fucking fire hose all over me, the downstream over-wrap equipment, the documentation kiosk, and the far side wall of the room
>immediately start to fucking panic, completely frozen in place for a few moments just staring at the colossal fuck-up I just created
>no idea how to shut the water off
>start frantically asking the operators where the shutoff valve is
>responses are either “what’s a shutoff valve?” or “OH MY GOD WHY AREN’T YOU SHUTTING IT OFF THERE’S SOLUTION SPRAYING EVERYWHERE”
>operations supervisor walks by the window, sees the shitstorm, and begins pounding on the window to get my attention
>points out shutoff valve
>I shut it off as fast as my now noodley, shaky, weak little arms will allow
>spend rest of shift avoiding eye contact with everyone due to shame

Luckily the department I work in is a train wreck so I didn’t get into any trouble and within a week no one cared anymore. One of the senior techs called me “waterboy” for a while but even he gave up on making that a nickname.

I don't mind the copper to be honest, it's just that nothing gets cleaned up. you've got 5 generations of wiring schemes in every closet and all of them are at least slightly "in use."

best part is I work in a hospital network so basically everything could be "Life critical" and god help you cut something important. The puritans are 100% the reason why there is taxes on alcohol in the United States.
There isnt even a debate about it. The long standing puritan influence from the early days of the country is why the temperance movements came about in the first place.

It stems from religion and to say otherwise is fucking ignorant.
