I have a hollow plastic tube that I need to cheaply increase the weight of, im thinking to maybe a pound or so. I tried to put metal bar inside it but it didn't fit. I need something I can pour inside it. Is there a better option than sand?

Buy a pound or two of tungsten. Grind to powder. Add powder to tube.

Buy aerosol sound deadening material. People spray them on thr underside of cars all the time to reduce cabin noise.

Another easier option might be aerosol bed liner

Melt wax with some lead shot or just some air gun BBs and pour it inside. Should be relatively solid and heavy when it solidifies.

>> No.1796821

If you don't have wax and BBs, beef tallow and baby teeth should be a decent substitute

for such an outrageously dumb question, you really need to give some context, why do you need to add weight to a plastic tube

Anon was so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.

Fishing weights. They're cheap and come in a shit ton of variety of sizes and weights.

You can get a sack of mortar at HD for $5.

I know it’s a dumb question. The plastic tube are flagpoles for small flags we will carry but they are too light, they need some weight to them to make them better to hold. It would have been a lot better if the plastic was solid instead of hollow, and buying my own tube isn’t an option because of the flags construction.

So basically this is what I’m left with having to do. I know it’s stupid as fuck. I tried putting a metal bar in the tube that’s the diameter of the opening but it didn’t fit (I guess one is a mm wider than the other or something), I figure my only option is to get something I can pour inside so it’s as close to solid as possible. Maybe sand, maybe something else

You're correct on the easiest heaviest thing would be sand (if you can cap both ends) or mix up some mortar mix (concrete has too big of aggregate) and shove it in there. Use a stick or dowel to push it all the way in and let it dry for a couple of days.
A 60lb bag of mortar mix is like $6 so you'll have way enough

Yeah I’m not buying a huge bag of stuff. I literally only need about a cup worth (based on me filling the tube with water then measuring what came out in a measuring cup). I’m gonna have someone try to get me sand from a beach they live next to, since I do have end caps on both sides.

In reality I think that I probably won’t get something perfect. The sand will probably be too light anyway

There's a lot of good suggestions in this thread, anon. In fact I'd say pretty much all of them are workable if you don't mind the smell

Wet down the sand and it'll be heavier.

I agree, a lot of good examples. I just think that based on the amount I need and the cost these items would cost, none would really be viable for my project

>>1797322
Would having wet sand in an enclosed tube really be a good idea? Won't it get moldy/mildewy or eventually dry out in there
