>> No.1774912

The only thing worrisome about that setup is how big are the wires going from the battery to what appears to be an inverter. a 1500 watt inverter needs 1 gauge wire for runs under 15 feet.
2000 watt inverter needs 00 gauge.

700 watt would needs 6 gauge.

Why would you use an earth ground on an isolated DC circuit?

>> No.1776535

>>1776527
Welp your car is earth grounded. By your logic it shouldn't but the static discharge from your tires would kill you.

You ground the metallic enclosure in these cases and make the positive common for >48vdc . The point is if a wire let's go it shorts on the box and blows a fuse. That is, if there was a fuse, a door, etc. Def not in this case but it's generally good practice unless it poisons the circuit. If he had good upstream protection, his lack of bushings cutting the cables would show this effect. Btw if you have a cut, 12v will kill you. If it was a plastic box there's nothing to ground except the circuit itself with grounding bushings and shit which likely doesn't apply here.

Its just for good practice anon.

No it isn't. It's called a floating ground. There is no such thing as an earth ground in DC as that would drain your battery to earth. The only DC system that's grounded is in marine application where you're trying to mitigate galvanic corrosion.

We DO NOT use earth ground as a 0 potential reference in a DC system.

Depends on what you mean by DC system.

PC power supplies have their negative tied to earth.

It is also common practice in control cabinets.

A lot of PLC manufactures prefer to have a grounded negative.

In an S7-300 configuration with grounded reference potential occurring interference
current is dissipated to the ground conductor/ to ground.

But even more damning is the fact that a rod in the ground attached to an incandescent attached to the positive post of the car battery lights up an incadencent a meter away depending on soil conditions. This is not coupling. It's referenced, through the tires. You either don't know what your talking about or just scraped by the bottom of electrical safety practices.

This is the very real and very unfortunate result of the American public school system. Despite electricity playing a major role in just about every aspect of our modern lives, the only general education we’re given on it is that it’s potentially dangerous and should only be handled by experienced individuals. It’s mind blowing to me that basic electrical theory and at the bare minimum ohm’s law aren’t included as core curriculum, yet I was required to memorize and identify the various types of fucking cloud formations.
