What would be the best way to approach painting a red door black?

I see a red door and I want it painted black. Should I scrape the red paint off first, or go right for the black paint over top?

In my experience the best method is to turn my head from it. Maybe then you can fade away and not have to face anything

Also rubber paint, like they put on the undercoat of your car. Total fuckin black. Texture might be cool too.
